For those who are fond of the Firefly series I just found two quite wonderful sites

One is the original costume designer's website

http://www.ishawna.com/

and the other is a site where the original costume designer is selling Firefly original costumes!!

Firefly was a kind of interesting show. I haven't quite seen all of it yet. Some of the ball gowns were.. erm... unique happy.gif

I'm planning a Kaylee-esque outfit ... but I'd also like to make a Saffron/Bridget outfit. For this one I'd be tempted to get a wig, so does anyone know an australian supplier for wigs. I'm guessing that they'll be easier to find now that cospay is more popular.

Yay! Firefly costumes are fun! (I'll have my Kaylee costume with me, but I don't know if I'll wear it though)

As for wigs, I generally start with Ebay, there's some pretty decently priced wigs there. Though most do come from overseas. Um, otherwise, I'm not sure

That's a bummer! But understandable! Perhaps google around, see what you can find! I've not much experience with wigs myself, so I'm not much help sad.gif

I'm making a Kaylee-esque costume to wear to Supanova. I'll probably wear it on Friday night, cos the top is a poly knit and a bit like wearing a plastic bag. I cut it out in a hurry on Saturday afternoon, and realised only when it was nearly finished (on Sunday) that the placement of hte upper front pieces was a bit Wrong. I don't have any more fabric, or the time to start again either. Still, I'm hoping to find a cotton or rayon knit to remake it one day in the future.

I'll take a pic, once I've finished it. (Hem & waist fitting to be done).

I've practically finished the knit top and we hates it, we does.

It's taken most of last night & all morning to figure out why. Apart from the design lines not being the best for my hobbit shape, the fabric is shiney - which is Bad on me, and the shade/hue of pink Not Flattering. Plus the bodgy layout. ohmy.gif So we hates it.

So, I decided that for supanova I won't be Kaylee, I'll be Jayne - without the weapons. I do seem to like the wildly inappropriate costumes (ie Nikki Webster, sleezy egyptian bloke)

I found a blokes t-shirt in Best n Less that I could imagine on Jayne, so I'm going to recut it for me, wear my black desert boots and imagine the facial hair.

Hey cool smile.gif - I started working on a female Firefly RP character that was of a similar sort of archetype to Mal - Still developing her backstory though, but I have a few sketchies lying around somewhere...

There was a wig place in Melbourne city, I have bought from oh, 10-15 years ago...
they were good. I usualy went in when I was in Melbourne for a convention.... I can't remember their name (bummer) and I cannot find a receipt....

there is also (or was) a wig place in Adelaide city (Renaissance aracade I think) but again I ahve not been there for 10 years or so....

I made a Zoe costume (I love working with real leather) for the Science week movie night.. made in a hurry so not as good as I would like...

(really dorky pics of me taking after the event at like 1.00 in the morning! - oh, I really need to exercise more!)
I want to make the zip vest too.

(I really, really love the short leather jacket with the studs!

Bonnie Wigs in Adelaide is very expensive, but they are great when they have a sale or you need wig caps or brushes and other accessories.

Kat that's a fantastic costume! biggrin.gif I love that short jacket, it's gorgeous! You did such a great job!!

I really need to fix up my Kaylee jacket, and there's still a couple of other Kaylee costumes I'd like to do. PErhaps if a second movie comes out, there would be an opportunity biggrin.gif
