I figured the closest category was fantasy! lol

Here's Master Skywalker's Indy costume, and my Marion:

Made and worn at BrisNova but will be worn again, and again and again. lol He ended up taking his Jedi away with us, but wore Indy all weekend. lol My Marion is not entirely accurate, but it's kinda close. Was not recognised much anyway. It's fun and comfortable to wear though!

Some notes about the costumes -

Indy
- jacket, shirt and pants from Wested
- web belt & bag buckle from todds costumes
- shoes were his own from the wardrobe
- hat is the cheap official one (want to replace it with the Akubra Federation)
- gloves were cheap riggers gloves that originally had blue trim around the edge. I unpicked it all and sewed cotton tape around the edge. Gloves were white when we bought them. Dave used the tutorial on Todd's Costumes website to weather them.
- bag from costumebase - strap replaced with a leather strap made by me from veg tanned leather, custom dyed
- leather belt and holster made by me - veg tanned leather, custom dyed

Marion
- shoes from Target on sale for only $10. I know they aren't accurate but they are comfy!
- pants made from lightweight linen, with an elastic waist
- belt made from linen look cotton - fastens at the back with velcro
- shirt pattern was altered to make the sleeves and sides wider and the neckline higher. All embroidery done by machine
- monkey's vest made from felt
- wig is the 'lily' wig from darcinut (Wildcat Wigs) on eBay in #4

Fantasy definitely laugh.gif

These were great costumes, you did a fantastic job with Marion, and Dave was an excellent Indy.

I'll post pics of my own Indy costume once the final two parts arrive. Just wish i could grow stubble as well as Dave laugh.gif

Nice effort guys. You two look great in those outfits. Akubra Federation is a great choice as opposed to a Herbert Johnson. Their quality has gone down somewhat in recent years as far as the Indy style fedora goes. For my money the Adventurebilt is the way to go. I am biased as I have one though LOL But the bonus of Steve making the hats for the new movie makes them official now anyways I guess.....

Love to see some more pictures of your leatherwork Phoenix....I love working with leather. Just never seem to have enough time to do alot of stuff myself LOL 4 kiddies keep me on my toes;) Did your beau weather his Wested? Is it lamb? Or goat? or? Couldn't quite tell in the pics. I'd like to go for a goat next......

Magnus...what parts are you waiting on mate?

High Regards

Woops, I didn't read it properly (this was reposted from livejournal) - we are actually not going to replace it with the Federation at the moment. It's currently having the band replaced at Adelaide Hatters, and they are reshaping it a bit. It'll do until we are game enough to get the Federation and work on shaping it ourselves. Quite a task, but not one we are ready for just yet. Kudos to those who have done it themselves already!

The Wested is the Raiders in pre-weathered hide. I think he wants to dirty the whole thing a bit more. I'm too nervous to do weathering!

I love leatherworking, it's fun! I must admit to choosing some projects based on being able to to belts and things. lol Although I've not tackled any difficult stuff yet. So far most of my leatherworking has been for star wars projects:
Jedi belt: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/jedialison.htm
Leia belt: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/leiaceremonial.htm
Mara belt & harness: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/marajade.htm
Luke Bespin holster & belt: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/lukebespin.htm
Another jedi belt: http://www.starfirephoenix.net/gallery/mai...GP3133.jpg.html

Thanks Magnus. MS has to shave every day because that stubble is very stubborn. lol I think he stopped shaving on the Tuesday night, so that's a good 5 days or so worth. lol

I'm really excited to see so many Indy's popping up all over the place! smile.gif You're all going to look so cool smile.gif

The Federation is the way to go! They're tuff and easy to bash. Adventurebilt may be the best, but the 8 month turnaround may be a bit hard to swallow for some? (Taz you'd know what the wait is now - I heard Steve stretched it out to a year just a while back.)

Alison, any plans for a whip?

He picked up one of those cheap whips off ebay. They aren't the greatest, but I think this will be a gradual work in progress. We'll upgrade bits as we go smile.gif [read: can afford]. It's been very expensive! But glad that there are only a few things we'd improve. A whip is one of them wink.gif

I forgot to add that with his shoes, they were too clean, so Dave attacked one with a scourer, and I attacked the other one. lol You can't really tell in pics, but they look much more well worn than they did when we started!

Shaping the Federation is not difficult at all starfire; it's what I did and it turned out rather well all things considered.

I would have liked to have gone with an Adventurebilt, but considering the waiting list, and the fact I wanted the costume in time for the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull premiere, I went with the local option. Also, damned expensive.

IndyTaz, I'm waiting on my gun and my whip. I got a replica Smith & Wesson 1912 Ejector in resin, but Customs have deemed it necessary to hold it. I also ordered a whip from Todd's Costumes; it got good reviews on Club Obi-Wan, but Todd's been having some issues sourcing leather of late, so there's been a delay.

I agree Magnus...bashing an open crowned fedora is not as hard as everyone makes it sound LOL A little steam...a little violence and Bob's your uncle LOL It does help to have a few screencaps or pics of the bash you are looking to replicate though.

Yes the wait time on an AB is only going to get worse for a while LOL Although there is the AB deluxe option from Marc.

Oooh...I bet you are excited about the whip huh? Nothing like holding a real whip for the first time. I'll be interested to see if you can get your HE. Good luck on that. Those pesky customs Nazi's ate my Artsee1.

Starfire...after the furor of this latest Indy installment is over. I am sure you will have a bountiful crop of secondhand items to pick from. So hold out for those good prices;)

Does anyone know where to buy a cheaper shoulder strap alternative for the Indy Gas Mask bag? The bag i'm looking at from costumebase comes with one, but it is synthetic leather, and i'd prefer a full leather one. I found this one on ebay, but it ended before I had a chance to bid: Strap. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I made my own - got a leather strip cut at a local store, dyed it, then attached it. The strap itself cost about $10, the dye around $8 for a small bottle and just a little bit of time. It's really easy and lots of fun!

I agree, make your own Jackson,
The genuine one is 1" wide and 65" long. Length can vary as to what is suitable. The buckle is a 1" square silver job without any rollers on it.
Any leather shop will have a similar buckle, the dye and sealer, and some rivets to attach the ends. Getting a leather strip 65" long may be an issue however.

I'll take some photos and post them up tonight if it's of any help.

Thanks Mate.

Has anyone dealt with costumebase before? Their bag looks pretty good: Costumebase Indy Bag, and there is a tutorial on Todd's Costumes to age the bag.

That's doesn't look half bad at all, pretty good price too.
The compartments are different to my MKVII but that's not saying much as there were several different variants of the MKVII.
The only thing missing is that funny silver disc that goes on the side.

I have heard that the Costume Base leather is on the shiny/cheap looking side, but if you make your own strap (and at least the hardware is already there- the buckle etc) I don't think you can go wrong!

The costumebase bag is what we used - it's a good, cheap option. The strap it comes with is far too short though! The buckle is the wrong colour too. Try to find a listing that they have with the 'make an offer' option and offer a lower price.

I got the strap cut at Adelaide Leather and Saddlery supplies from a very large veg tanned hide. It was about 66 inches long. I was lucky they had a really large hide at the time. I got the silver buckle from Todd's costumes - along with the hat band, and the web belt - but the postage was expensive for so few items sad.gif

I just won this MkVii on eBay for $27 delivered:

I'll upload some pics once it arrives. I just need to make a leather strap now.

I was looking at Todd's. Way too much for postage for what his items are.

That's excellent! They're tough bags!
Where is it from may I ask? That one looks like a Canadian or Australian made one. (All Commonwealth countries made them during the war, but they all made them a little different)

All cosmetic differences that wont make a lick of difference.

Most Canadian, Indian, and Australian bags are tan coloured rather than the drab green that the British ones were.
The pockets inside vary slightly, some have a flap pocket inside (for some tube of something that I have forgotten) and the Canadian ones have one single drain hole in the bottom rather than the two that the British ones have. Canadian and Australian bags *usually* have D rings rather than O rings for the strap.

I never even used my MKVII when I did Indy costuming, I used a MKVI simply because I liked it better. The MKVI has a rear flap compartment as well as the one you see from the front, it used to hold my Uni notepads just nicely.

Well, i'm sure with a bit of RIT dye, it could come up OD in no time...

Update:

Well I found a supplier of leather straps. It's not screen accurate (1.14" instead of 1") but it is 1600mm, which is the longest I could find under $20. Silver Chicago screws are around $5 delivered, and leather dye shouldn't be too hard to find. The question is, where would I find a square adjuster buckle on the cheap, as Todd's is way too much for shipping.
