I know there's a few people on here interested in Gothic Lolita so I thought I'd start this thread to cover anything regarding them.

To inspire, here's a few photos of some of the EGL and other girls who were casually preening at Harajuku in Tokyo last weekend. The outfits/costumes range from the dainty to the downright bizzare (there was a girl with blue hair and her face wrapped in 'bloodied' bandages).

here here
here and here.

This one was my personal favorite:

Other than myself and Metatonia, who else is interested in EGL costuming?

I haven't done any costuming in this genre and don't know if I will, but I love some of the gothic clothing I've seen inspired by this style, so I guess I would call myself interested smile.gif

Although I hadn't considered that in dressing this way I may be one of the people who doesn't look like an adult in cute clothes, but kinda like an oddly dressed child... people do say I look young...

Harajuku seems to be the place to be in Tokyo. I wish I could have got there when I was in Japan, but I was miles away!

That one you picked is my favourite too of the ones you posted. I also liked the last one.

I'm going to start working on some EGL after I've gotten over the ruffles from my cancan dress. I'd like to make one or two dresses just for myself though I don't know where I'd make them. There is some nice plaid out at the moment here and also I've been checking out things like lace when I think of it for ideas.

I know I'm bringing a topic back from the dead, but I thought it might be useful to people if I put the link to the Gosu Rori pattern reading pdf here as well as in the links area so its easier to find.

This is an excellent guide if you don't know much japanese. It helps with kanji and katakana and with common words like front, back, left, right, types of materials and things so that you can successfully use the patterns out of the Gosu Rori magazines!!

great link!

The great thing I've found about Gosu Rori magazines is that the diagrams are very straightforward so that if you don't ready any Japanese at all you can still work out what's going on.

Metanoia, do you have any Gothic Lolita Bibles at all? I bought one back from Japan. It was really dissatsfying since there is only one or two patterns in it. The part about it I did like was the street fasion photo shots

You look so cute, SP!! Very kawaii, as Metanoia said. biggrin.gif

On my trip to Spotlight, I found this fabric that I just HAD to get. I only got a couple meters of it and I'm not sure what I want to so with it yet (am contemplating mixing it with a gothic red plaid for a lolita) but its just too cute.

What do you think, guys?

I have had these shoes for about 5 years, and rarely worn them because the heels are quite high... but anyway, I have decided to design my next lolita outfit around these.... arent they just perfect! They are similar to the shoes that CatM wore to the himeji picnic smile.gif

Has anyone heard of the term Elegant Gothic Aristocrat? Seems to be a more mature style. More gothic and victorian in design than shorts skirts and ruffles.

SP, LOVE the shoes! They are VERY cute.

MDB, Elegant Gothic Aristocrat or EGA is technically the name ONLY for a line of clothing by Mana, the Moi-même-Moitié clothing line. Its quite andogynous with clothes often being intended for both male and female. Its usally black, white and dark colors with lots of elegance and simplicity. Most of the clothes tend towards some form of frock coats, victorian skirts or pants, top hats and so forth.

However, here in the West, EGA is often used to reffer to clothing slightly more masculine in bent that lolita clothing with a strong bent towards gothic victoriana.

Any clothes you see on Mana in the G&L Bibles are usually from his clothing line and are either EGL or EGA.

Yep. The same magazine that I (and Metonoia and S_P) took our patterns from have patterns for Elegant Gothic Aristocrat gear in them. It's much more like what the Brisbane goths used to wear before the Emos took over.

There's some nice frock coats, a long ruffled skirt I want to make and.... what else? oh yeah... as Chastangela said, more pants, jackets and waistcoats

I think I'm going to have to do an article about all the types of Lolita for the ACG magazine smile.gif

Ooh, a lolita article would probably be a good thing since there is so much interest in it and yet a great deal of confusion as to what is and what isn't Lolita. biggrin.gif

Yes Please!

I'd love to know more ... some of the loli costumes in GR had me goggling in horrified fascination. Others had me drooling and wishing I wasn't so tubby.

Wenz... I may have found a lolita dress that might work for you. Its in Gosu Rori vol 4 and here is a pic... its not a fantastic pic compared to the magazine, so if you want a better scan and for me to see what I can do about the pattern let me know.

I got the pic from a great lolita gallery http://avantgauche.co.uk
You can have a look through heaps of magazines there.
