I'd like to buy a second-hand or cheapish dressmakers dummy. Medium size and up I guess, though that's not important. Neither is the condition really. Does anyone have an old one they would sell? I live in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, so could travel from Bathurst to Sydney, etc. Or would pay postage costs. I am making some medieval costumes in the next few weeks and really need one.

I've been looking on ebay for quite a while to find a cheapish sewing mannequin. They're available, but they quickly bid up past my definition of cheap.
I hope you find one in time.

I got mine on ebay last year. I took a while to get one within a decent price range, but I was willing to wait it out too.

I keep an eye on second hand shops and antique shops. I found one a few years ago, but even the i paid 70.00 for it. It was not my zie but it still helps for draping and pinning. I also boutgh my second one from Lincraft when they have a sale, they sometime get reduced to half price.

Tjanks everyone for the replies. I managed to get an old one which will do for now, but it's very small size. Yes....I have been trying on ebay, but hell, the prices do skyrocket!

Having a dress dummy that's too small is better than having one too big - you can always (and probably should always) pad it out so it's your size, and shape (just 'cos you're the same measurements doesn't always make you the shape). Get a friend to help you make a 'duct-tape' double and put that over your too small dummy and just stuff the gaps.

PS. Don't use the silvery stuff we call duct tape here - it stretches and will distort your wrap. What the Americans call duct tape, we call gaffer tape in Autralia, but it's a bit (lot) more expensive. I use the brown packing tape you can pick up in Coles for a couple of dollars for a six pack. Most people I've wrapped have used about one and a half rolls for the three layers. And if you're feeling really cheap, use a large garbage bag for your first layer rather than a t-shirt.
