After looking through some Dragon*Con Pictures, I saw a Character that I had seen many times in the last year, and I decided to research her.

American McGee's Alice, or Twisted Alice as I call her, is a Video Game Character from back in 2000 based on the Book Character of Alice in Wonderland.

The Back-story is abit horrid, but totally me biggrin.gif

Twisted Alice - If you don't know about her...

I have the Bodice sorted, I just need to get a Skirt Pattern...if you read my LJ you will know I am getting S5006 for the petticoat, or something like it...I hope to go shopping today...if my bank account tells me I can...lol
I also need to find a necklace of the Greek Letter she has around her neck...She also has a Greek letter/symbol on her right Apron Pocket, the one covered by her arm...I am not sure about the one on her left one...

This is the First Character I have found myself liking and suiting...my mate from Dunedin says that She is so me, I am Crazy enough to play her biggrin.gif

I can't wait to put on the Blood spatter Detail and the Knife is gunna be so much fun to make biggrin.gif

What do you think about her?

Good luck. I have the game too, so it made it easier to get the costume correct. The only things that I am really missing are the skull on the back of her bow and the necklace.

I also managed to get away with a black wig. But for reality it should be dark brown. Oh and my boots are a bit too chunky but when you have trouble getting boots to fit, you kinda take anything you can get.

I can't wait to see pictures of yours too.

I love your version! biggrin.gif

I found a Fan-Art picture of the back of the Costume and was wondering if the Skull was there in the game, so that helps me a bit...and also I have dark-brown hair so I don't have to use a wig, just need to straighten it...biggrin.gif

I would be very careful of home-made fake blood. It tends to stain really badly. I have professional fake blood that I put on my apron the day before I wear it. It then dries, but still looks good.

But the best thing is that it washes out in the washing machine. Even though I have worn my dress a few times and put blood on it numerous times, the apron is still pure white.

I brought a Swatch to test the Fake Blood on, and so far its been good, but I still need the right Red...hehe

I will look into finding some professional Blood...I have to try the 'semi-edible' recipe that my mate made once for one of her Fan-Vids..lol...so I will find it then biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Update:

I have finished the Bodice Mock-up and the petticoat, though I may have to put in another layer to give it extra poof. I am now on to the proper Bodice and have finished cutting the skirt out biggrin.gif

So it is looking good for the Sept 25th deadline biggrin.gif
If I can wrangle it, I maybe able to get pics of it finished, cause I don't have a dressmaking-dummy so the pics will have to be of me wearing it...:S lol That will be fun...

So I have to add the zip now, so I will try and see if I can get pics of that in the morning...

Finished the Zip, which was ok to put in...lol

I found a site that shows a simple way to gather, but involves a sewing machine...anyone got a easy way to gather Handsewing???
Have had an idea about knotting the end of the thread, basting a section of the Fabric and then pulling...and so on and so forth...anyone tried it that way??

Ok Folks...After trying on the Bodice I have realised that there are too many things to fix on it, and re-handsewing the bits that need fixing would take too long. So I am putting it aside until I get a Sewing Machine...

So...no costume for Armageddon this year...and I am mift about it

Sorry Cora, I haven't been keeping up with this thread - for gathering by hand you've basically got it right: use a running stitch and just pull to gather smile.gif People were doing it that way for hundreds of years before a sewing machine came along.

If you gather it this way and stitch it down as you would in a modern garment, you'll effectively get a bunch of tiny knife pleats (the pleats being the size of your stitches). However, if you're completely handsewing a garment, you might want to think about constructing the garment more the way they would have done when sewing machines weren't around.

See http://www.vertetsable.com/demos_cartridgepleating.htm

This implies that your bodice at least is lined (and finished as a separate piece) but I've done a skirt attachment this way by finishing the edge and just folding it over before pleating (rather than lining the skirt as well). The size of the running stitch you take dictates the size of the pleat. The deeper the pleat the more fabric you'll use up. (The Victorians would pleat a yard of fabric into 2".) But if you want to be a bit more economical with your fabric, make your fabric 'thicker' (eg. use a thicker fabric like wool for your garment, or turn the fabric over twice so you have 3 layers of fabric to stitch through, or insert a strip of thin felt under your turnover to make three layers). Don't get hung up on making the pleats mathematically the same either, a little bit of variation just doesn't show up because you're only seeing one edge of the pleats not the more uneven edge on the inside. wink.gif

Hope that helps for any future plans you may have...
