I am wanting to make a Robe out of Leather (just the Basic Style....similar to what Worf wore in 'Sins Of The Father' and thus, without Pouches), and am just wondering....would I need any Lining for it, and if so, what kind and what Colour?

My Robe will be Black, by the way, and not the 'Traditional' Tan that we generally tend to see :-)

It will be awhile yet before I actually start on this Robe, as I need to Draft some new Patterns for it yet....so I'm just 'Gathering Ideas' at the moment :-D

At the moment, I'm thinking of either Black Satin or Black Drill-Cotton....

Any Advice would be Useful :-)

Drill cotton always looks like it needs ironing. Granted it will be inside the garment and probably not seen, but if you want a jacket to 'flow', drill cotton can make it catch (through friction) on whatever you're wearing under it.

I would probably avoid a satin. Just because of the whole shiney thing. But something like a Georgette or crepe could work. Mainly because they have the weight to fall and sit nicely and are a lot harder to crush (the least ironing the better in my book).

A lining fabric for a jacket or coat needs to have a very smooth surface, so that it doesn't drag on the clothes it's going over. That's one reason why satin is commonly used ... it's not such a issue when picking a fabric to line a dress. sleep.gif

But whatever you do, avoid the sunsilky lining fabrics. They can be a nightmare to sew with. Slipping all over the place and they can get very hot to wear because they do not breath.

yeah, sunsilky lining isn't for our weather ... it might be OK in places where 20c is a hot sunny summers day, but not in Sydney. :ick:

check the fibre content, cos just cos the name includes the word silk, doesn't mean that any natural fibre is in it.

Thank you all for your Responses and Suggestions :-)

At the moment, I'm leaning towards the Black Satin

This is, of course, a 'Future Project', as I still have the rest of my Armour to complete before then (the Vest at least should be finished hopefully by the end of November), and as such, I'm still 'Gathering Ideas' for when I actually get to the stage of starting this Project

Even before that, though, I still have yet to Draft my Patterns for this thing

I have a Set which someone else used some years ago for hers, and I have Drafted a Set for myself from those Patterns....but....I will be wanting to more-or-less start from scratch as far as that goes, by finding whatever Patterns I can on the Net, Comparing them to the two I currently have, and going from there :-)
