Hi,
I would like to make a puffy tule petticoat to go with my nice corset which I just finished. Any recommendations on lining it? How loose fitting should I make the petticoat lining?

Thanks

Pink

The lining will depend on the kind of sillohette you want, and what you feel comfortable in. I'd say do it in cotton but that's because I'm big on natural fibre and breathability, you could always use something like sunsilky/ bemsilk or satin if you want. The shape would just be your standard A-line, but it's up to you. You could do a circle skirt to give extra oomph to your tulle, or a pencil/ hobble/ wiggle skirt to give your walk that little extra sashay (and it's extra protection if your skirt blows up in the wind). Maybe get yourself a copy of Simplicity 5006 if you need an actual pattern to work off.

What is the petticoat for? Is it for Victorian or 50's or lolita?

If you want this for mid 19th century most of my inspiration came from this page on the demode website http://www.demodecouture.com/crinoline/ but I simplified it to just 3 panels of nylon net cut to my length from waist to the bottom of my ankle bone sewn into a tube shape I used 3 layers constructed like this and gathered them all with one set of stitching and attached it to a waistband (as I wanted the 1850s sudden flare at the waist I didn't bother with a yoke like the demode website) I didn't bother with an attached lining (that would require washing and I don't want to wash my net petticoat, as the net loses a lot of its stiffness when it's washed) I use separate cotton petticoats above and below the net petticoat.

On CNZ, a member was trying to make her Wellington Cosplay Ball Gown "poofy" without having to make panniers etc...and man I would never have thought of how she did it...Here is the Thread: Poofiness

Any one seen it before?

It might work for a quick and easy petticoat...

If you are making it for under something I have some good tips for a lolita style petticoat. Because you are working with tulle though you probably want to stick to something like cotton as the base straight off as sewing the layers of tulle to something that is slippery is an absolute nightmare.

My petticoat page on my website is the most looked at page. Might help, but only if it is for under something.
