Hi All,

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I just wanted to say that I've been inspired by the couple of Iron Man costumes I've seen floating around on various costumer websites over the past couple of months.

As a result I've got me a mannequin, a whole bunch of sculpting clay, a few buckets of casting materials and I've set to work.

Naturally I've started with the helmet, it's not the largest piece, but it gives curious onlookers an instant image of the project.

Unlike a lot of the iron man masks I've seen, I've decided to make it as a two part mould. One part for the majority of the head, and a separate part for the faceplate. I'm currently at a bit of a loss about how to attach the two. I'm toying with the options of a pulley system that will slide the faceplate up onto the remainder of the helmet, or simply using some magnetic strips to hold the faceplate in place when it's down. If anyone has some ideas for how to incorporate mechanics into the design, it would be appreciated.

The current design has been set up to allow space for a small watch battery pack to allow the eyes to glow at the flick of a switch, or to allow wires to run through the helmet and into the main part of the suit for a more long term lighting solution. Again, if anyone's got better ideas for costume lighting, I'm open to suggestions.

Here's some pics of the current work in progress. Crappy pictures I know, but my phone is the only thing taking images at the moment.

Still got a long way to go.

Wow! That's looking pretty cool so far! I'm impressed by your sculpting skills!

I'm not sure about all the mechanics though, but I'm sure there's some around here who can help!

If you can I recomend insted of a watch battery. run some wires to the torso. from verious designs that I have seen the upper sholder plate would be a great place to hide a battery pack or if there is enough room the chin would also make a good hiding spot. and hide a duel AA battery case in there. for the batterys go the extra mile and get the energizer Lithum. it is $20 for a 4 pack, but I have ran large LED's for up to 12 hours at a time and I have yet to runt hem dead.

Heeeey! How did I miss this?!?! Looking cool.

Iron Man is on my to-do list next year but I'll be going the pepakura route (I don't think I can afford that much clay tongue.gif ).

Actually, before I do that I'm going to have to lose A LOOOOOOOOT of weight... blush.gif
