Well I have to admit I didn't think lolita style was for me when I thought it was just goth and frilly dresses. I have trouble seeing myself in anything described as "cupcake". BUT....I have this large ream of fabric who's only possible use would be a lolita outfit. Trust me I've tried to push it onto numerous projects but nope, lolita it is. Soo....the only lolita style I can see myself in is the boy style. Frilly shirts and pants I can do. I can use my Doc Martens or maybe even purchase those delicious shoes in Mollini this season. Black patent leather, ridiculously high platform, rounded toe and ribbon laces. Yup, I love them, want them, need an excuse to buy them. wub.gif

Anyway back to the topic. So I'm thinking a long (thigh length) tailored waistcoat, lots of buttons, petersham or velvet ribbon trim. Oversized collared shirt with voluminous sleeves and of course cotton velveteen prince pants with buttons down the side. I'm a rank beginner so any tips or shove in the right direction is appreciated.

The fabric in question is a vintage oversized paisley in grey, apricot and various browns with a dash of white. It's quite muted in colour and really is very beautiful. I've been wanting to use it for ages and think this might work. Thoughts? opinions?

From what I have seen oijisama is usually very much black and white with colour trimming as a generalisation. I immediately thought THIS... but paisley... I am not so sure. Do you have a pic? Are you thinking of using it as a majority, or only have a little for accenting?

I use the gosu rori magazine as inspiration. You can get back to issue 9 or so still in the shops, or pick up back issues for about $30-35 and they have patterns for all of the non-advertising outfits. http://www.avantgauche.co.uk/Gallery/index.html (screenshots of the magazines on right)

You might want to ask at http://community.livejournal.com/oz_lolita/
It is where the australian lolitas are.

I don't know, I do think you can get away with other colours in kodono. You just need to remember that you are going to stand out, but I have seen quite a few kodono outfits done in brighter colours. Very much inspired by georgian designs. Though, if you do use a paisley you might want to tone it down with matching bulk colours so that it is not head to toe print. You could maybe do a vest or jacket in the paisley and plain pants and blouse underneath, matching but simpler, just picking up one of the colours.

Good idea, I had to admit that the J fashion mags I got the inspiration from had them in colours with women wearing them. I've seen brown plaids, tans and others. That's not goth though, so I understand why you wouldn't find it in a goth-centric magazine. Obviously it's an outfit for me not for an actual boy. I just thought the idea of having a fancy boys outfit as being rather cute. The print itself is very muted, almost pastel. I had planned to do only the waistcoat in that paisley, because yeah it is rather busy. I was going to match it with an ice blue cavalier or similar style shirt and ice blue velveteen pants, with white socks and some very cute black platform shoes. I may just do this anyway and simply not call it a Lolita Ouji sama outfit. I was drawn to the Lolita idea mainly because it's incredibly fun and would be nice to attend a Loli meetup at some future date without committing an entire wardrobe to it.

The print isn't particularly Georgian so it doesn't fit into my 18th century wardrobe, otherwise I'd make a Caraco out of it. Maybe there's another genre out there this idea will fit more easily into and I'm just not aware of it yet. It's fun to day dream though....
