Since there's been a bit of talk about Superhero costumes recently I thought I'd add this link. I've always been slightly peeved about how mainsteam comics seem to imply only boys can be superheroes. If you're a girl you only get to be an adjunct - 'Super'girl, 'Bat'girl etc. So I went a-hunting....

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/characters/ - they got girls too!

and for details !!including different costume options!! http://uncannyxmen.net/db/spotlight/

I just wish they weren't all so <beep> tall! laugh.gif

But I do feel a superhero costume creeping onto my To Do list....

Way cool!

I have a few female hero (and villain) costumes on my list:

Batgirl (DC)
Starfire (DC)
X3 Phoenix (Marvel)

I wish so much that I could dress as batman.. but batgirl is cool. Although there are so many incarnations to choose from. I'm seriously considering designing my own with some inspiration from the birds of prey tv series, and the comics.

I love the teen titans, and I'd love to do a starfire costume (though she's not the inspiration for my name). She wears purple!

If I could do the wings, I'd probably do a Hawkgirl costume too wink.gif I love the justice league smile.gif

Catwoman was a cool character in the live action movie. I loved how she made her costume in the movie as sort of the "birth" of catwoman.

Mmmmm... Female Superheroes......

A personal fave of mine, but I have never tried a costume, for obvious reasons.

I was looking at doing a Red Tornado (c1940's DC comics) costume for the ball, that is a female costume, but it doesn't look like a current female costume, quite different. If I could get my pics up here I would show you.

There are some great female superheroes around, there was even a couple of female Phantoms in the early Lee Falk stories. They wore a modified Phantom suit that didnt really look any different from the Phantoms regular suit, except for the body shape. Because the Phantom is revered as a ghost by criminals and the jungle folk, they got away with it, and one ended up marrying the missionary she rescued, in true 50's style!

Sometimes it's more fun to be a super-villaness. Batman had plenty of them with Catwomen, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn (my favourite).

But if you ARE keen on the superheroine thing.... Wikipedia has a list of superheroines here:

When trying to think of what superhero I'd like to do, I instantly thought of Wonder Woman. She's one of the original female superheroes who was actually a superhero and a rolemodel that women can do anything! I also love that she's quite muscular and curvy instead of being stick thin like a lot of other female superheroes. I've got a whole folder full of research pictures, hopeing to get it done for next years nova!

Wow, I have to confess I was never really big on comics (and video games in my youth were Pakman and Asteroids Lol) - I never realised there was such a choice.

I won't even be starting it until later in the year. Have other costumes to complete in time for the ball, and for Sydney Supanova unfortunately sad.gif

The plan is for Brisbane (if I go), and Sydney as well in 2007. Does that mean you will do something for Sydney 07?? smile.gif

Just got my Catwoman costume done:

I'd love to meet up with some more people brave enough to wear the suits, but that may mean heading across the ditch to a 'Nova sometime.
