Does anyone know where I could buy some gold velvet or velveteen (not stretch)?

I've been looking for bright yellow velveteen myself, which obviously there is not really any to be found anywhere.

HOWEVER, on the weekend, I went to my local spotlight and found not one small roll, but TWO LARGE rolls of white velveteen, which is pure cotton and can be dyed, so although it's not gold as you asked for, it may be an alternative?

Thanks for the suggestion, dying might work. I shall test a meter sample and see how I go. Though I am looking for an antique sort of gold as I am starting work on a gown based on the portrait of Eleanor of Toledo.

Another idea though possibly a long shot is velveteen curtains on ebay - they have gold ones come up

Also suggesting the ebay route. Look up theatre or french apartment curtains and you'll get them. The only problem may be in the age and condition of the fabric.

I hadnt thought of ebay. will try it as soon as I have a spare moment (not that there are many of those around - what is it with the whole 24 hours in a day thing????). I did pick up some curtins from an opshop which are almost the right colour, but not really the correct texture and weight. I really want to get something as close to perfect as I can because of the effort that will be put into the dress.

I absolutely love this Eleanora dress and I will definately post pictures when it is done...it might not be for a fair while though. I have just finished a dress based on Elizabeth's Pelican Portrait - and am waiting for a freind to send me some of the pictures to upload.

I am going to Brisbane next week for a work conference, so I will try to do some fabric shopping while I am there.

Ohhh, well I can tell you that I haven't seen any gold velvet in Brisbane... But if you want to know of some good places to check out, let me know. I am going up the coast this weekend on a fabric shopping trip, I'll be sure to check for you, can you tell me how many metres you need?
