Thought I'd share this with you all.

While many of you were have a blast at the Annual Ball, I was on the other side of town having just as good a time at a friend's birthday costume party. She was indecisive and so settled upon Horror Vs Pirates theme.

No offence to the buccaneers out there but I'm not normally a fan of the pirate theme only because it's been done many times before and I tend to tire of seeing the same iterations of Captain Jack Sparrow. There are only so many times you can see a pirate in mascara! I'm kidding! But in any case I wanted to make something slightly different for my costume.

I briefly contemplated creating a Davey Jones costume from Pirates of the Caribbean but thought that far too elaborate and expensive (yes I'm ambitious but remember LAZY... and a bit of a tight-a**). So taking into account the Horror Vs Pirates theme I decided to combine the two and make a Skull Pirate (Pffft that's what I'm calling him!).

This returns me to my tradition of costumes that involve covering my face!! tongue.gif

I sculpted the head with oil-based clay and then made a silicone mould for which I would use to slush cast the polyurethane resin. The weapons I found for REAL cheap at Toy World in Harbour Town ($8 for a POTC flintlock pistol!!). Although being a typical male I thought the sword wasn't long enough so I replaced it with one made of MDF.

Love the skull. Well done, so clever!

The whole costume looks great.

It's get a bit much eh? I don't have a problem with a well made Jack Sparrow, it's just that every second pirate costume I've seen is either a Captain Jack or heavily inspired by him.

Mind you, in my research I have seen some amazing pirate costumes that have made me less wary of the theme.

Yeah, it's one of those things that if done right can look amazing. But if done wrong can look like a bad 80s new romantic cover band biggrin.gif

I think that it creates a unique look that really catches the eye in a good way.

Pirate costumes aren't really up my alley but I would feel great being seen in that.

Nice Job indeed.
