Just to get some discussion going....

What's your favourite science fiction costume? Is it from a movie, a tv show? Or your own design? Is it something you've already made, or is it something you would love to make?

I adore so many of the Star Wars costumes, both from the films, and from some of the art I've seen in the Expanded Universe of the characters. Although I love the costumes in Babylon 5. Next year I plan to make at least 2 Star Wars costume, and 1 Babylon 5 costume smile.gif

Although, I love the costumes in the Stargate movie and the tv series. They are so amazingly detailed smile.gif

My first was a set of Jedi Robes. Then I made Princess Leia ceremonial. Then the Ceremonial that Amidala wore in Ep 1. After that I made a set of Green velvet robes for Mara Jade (EU character) and then I made Padma's packing gown. (Grey and black). After that I made the Picnic gown and finally Mara Jades leather catsuit... add in there the kids costumes I have made over the years (2 Princess Leia, 2 Anakin Skywalker, 3 Jedi Robes, 1 Padme Lakes gown, 2 Barriss Offee and a Twi'lek slave .) Prolific at best. tongue.gif

I also have a flamenco spanish outfit and a flapper dress.

I am in search of material to make Padme's Aqua Georgette(sp) at the moment, my first version of it any way.
This one will not have the detail of the over-dress on it, due to the fact I have no idea how to embroidery...yet. The embroidery on this version with just be sewn on lace. I am most deffinately going to make another version with the embroidery in the near future... smile.gif

Hi there Cora. I've just started playing with embroidery. I started with simple chain stitch designs on medieval things, (well simple equaled turning a 5 hour project into a 50 hour one, but...) and for that a tailors chalk pencil was my best friend. I've started a few things a bit more complex now. The main thing is just get in and have a go. Do a small test piece first to test the stitch you choose to replicate an effect.

Nice to meet another NZer smile.gif

Well I've been asked if I could make an origional battlestar galactica viper helmt for a convention in April and I'm going to try casting a few of them so a galactica uniform may be something for me to think about this year.

Also want to do an X-wing pilot outfit, pretty basic conversion job on overalls with a few added parts-already got the helmet.

better not put too much on the list or I'll never get anything finished unsure.gif

Saw the orange overalls at the Mr Bankrupt place on Marion road RD, not sure if they are still there, but they were only $25. Worth a look.

And the Battlestar costumes were fantastic, loved the dress uniform...but the jackets alone are great!

Stargate is my fav (as people may have already guessed). Toying with the idea of an ESB Han Solo. I prefer the shirt and the yellow striped pants.

I have loved Boba Fett's armour since I was 5 so it has to be that.

After that it's Aeryn Sun's rebel outfit from Farscape or the Peacekeeper captains uniform.

Yep the jacket is much cooler than the vest from ANH. Are you doing your own design or do you have a pattern? I'm thinking of buying a pattern online to try my hand at it... erm I just taught myself how to use a sewing machine tonight... I'm not the slightest bit over-ambitious am I lol?

happy.gif the best way to acheive is to try... with no formal training, my grandmas uber cool sewing machine and some determination I'm getting along ok with machine sewing though I still have a lot to learn.
