We'll be having a regency picnic in February ... not sure which day in February yet. :-) For variety Callan Park has been requested ... there should be some great spots for photo opportunities too.

Miss W-
requests the honour of your company
at a luncheon in the open air of Callan Park
on the 21st day of February.

It's probably time to pick a date for the Regency picnic, so if you have a strong love or hate for a Sunday in February, please let me know. If you've had an email from me you can either email me back or post here.

I'm looking forward to making a bonnet. Oops, just realised there might be hand sewing involved. :shudders:

Smarter women than me suggested avoiding the day of romantic love (ie sunday 14th), so I'm proposing the 21st.

If anyone wants a sewing bee in January, let me know, cos I'll need to be encouraged to finish my new dress. At this point I don't have any work that month so it can be midweek. Though I shall take the cashy money if work turns up. As well as the dress I need to make a bonnet.

The 21st has been well received (or at least nobody recoiled in horror). 12:30 seems to be a good starting time ... so now I need to pick the spot and let you know that & about parking.

Do we want to have a shared feast ... and if so who can bring what?

mmmh yummy.

I've been googling 18th /early 19th century cooking & found a 1790s recipe for pompkin pie cool.gif Cornish pasties were period, with veal or chicken n mushroom fillings, so I'll give the chicken pasties a try & bring them. Ginger beer (alcoholic) was very common as was spruce beer. Not so sure about pine flavoured beer blink.gif , and I found a nice sounding lemonade that I'll bring too.

Had a look around on line and found that the sandwich was invented 1725, by the Earlo of Sandwich, so i think I may bring a tray of sandwiches along.

I've done my usual amount of procrastinating, although the realisation that it's barely more than 3 weeks away means I need to be sewing like the wind from now on.

My bonnet pattern arrived yesterday. There was an awful amount of sizing in my dress fabric. Not sure if it's all out yet, and I might give it one more wash. :wonder where I put it: The stays were cut out almost a year ago blush.gif so I think I'll be stitching those first. Cos I can't test the bodice pattern until the stays are done. Thankfully it's still too warm to wear a spencer so I'm saving making that. So far.

Hi Wendy,

Ditto that on the spencer...I'll make that closer to the Jane Austen festival. Anyway if it should be a cool day a shawl will probably be all that is needed.
Almost finished my dress, just gotta add drawstring and buttons and hem up
...not sure about the bonnet yet...simplicity(? ) has a free bonnet lesson on their website, might just follow that.....or will I do a soft bonnet?

I will be bringing along 3-5 extra people as well as my husband this time, hooray! Said guests are members of Swordguild and Danelaw, I was chatting with them about Victorian costuming and when I mentioned our upcoming Regency picnic they all got very excited!! Hopefully they will all be in some description of costume too, I will be dressing a couple of them in my spare kit and at least one of the ladies has her own Regency outfit(s).

The main entrance to Callan Park is on Balmain Road opposite Cecily Street. There's free parking through the park - though look out for restricted parking signs.

It would be nice if we could all meet at teh front gate & head out from there past the Sydney College of Arts, but realistically I don't think we'll all arrive close enough - and mighn't want to walk back n forth from parking to gate to picnic spot.

My brain is going to dribble out my ears while I try to find a decent and linkable map of the Park - it's ridiculously hard even with my google fu.

We all have mobiles, so that's one less worry. Oh, heapha, do you want my mobile in case we can't pin down a better meeting spot.
