I got the Historic Houses Trust newsletter and they're having another Redcoats & Convicts this May. It's on Sunday 30th, and there's no entry fee unless you go into the museum. Cathy & I did last year and I loved the hammocks.
Costume genre is Convict era (so 1788 to 1868) so there's a wide range of clothing to chose from.
Since last years I've been able to confirm at least 1 convict ancestor, who was transported in 1832 for stealing fabric & lace.

That's pretty cool!
Yeah, she got nabbed twice in 6 months for stealing the same type of things ... so in my case at least, thefabric obsession must be genetic

This is next weekend so it's time to bump up the thread
One of our friend is actually organising the day and he contacted Adam and myself to help out with some of the display stuff, but I'm sure we'll have time to break for a lovely picnic lunch. I'll be helping with the sewing display, and Adam will be doing some rope work.

Great to see this is still going ahead.
I wonder if some of our new friends from JAFA are going along as well...

Mistress Fey has given me a nudge with her foot .... yes picnic time is coming. I'm going to get there around 11am on Sunday and unlike in February don't think I'll be tempted to remove my petticoat cos it's too hot. If we bring along our own picnicky things like last time & pool them if it suits. I am going to bake a 'pompkin pie' so long as I can get my head around baking. (don't do it very often!) I'm bring myself a pastie too, as I can't eat of the bread.

I'm going to phone them tomorrow to find out for sure, but there may be an entry cost to get into the Barracks on Sunday.
It's not an issue for me this year, but it would have been a deal-breaker for me last year. I'll post tomorrow after work & let you know what I've found out.

I phoned the barracks museum this morning. I was told that unlike last year there won't be free access to the grounds of the Barracks. They will be charging half price at the front gate. That's $5 for adults.

I had fun today, though I took hardly any photos. It didn't rain at all
which great since a mini cyclone was supposed to hit Sydney around lunchtime (it ended up much further south down the coast).
