I didn't know much about Steampunk before the joined the Guild but since then I became a lot more familiar with it and wanted to give it a go.

For a while I've had this design rattling around in my head and after finding out about the Steampunk Ball for the Fringe thought it was a great time to make it happen.

Click here for a larger version

The little story I have behind this design is he's a scientist/inventor keeping himself alive with his own creations after some sort of lab accident. Pretty simple really.

I've always liked the character Kroenen from the movie Hellboy (I even made that that one) and wanted to recreate that mysterious look to this creation. There are also elements of Cybermen and Iron Man in there too for good measure.

Oh... I like masks...

I plan to incorporate a voice changer into the mask and a large 'monocle' with LEDs. The shoulder and bicep are meant to have compartments that glow where you can see moving gears.

I have all the clothing I need including top hat, morning coat (had to dye that black), waist coat and puff tie. Now I just need to finish the build in time.

Photos coming soon...

This was meant to be a Work-In-Progress thread but I never really got time to post such images what with trying to get the costume done in time (and yes it was down to the wire as is tradition). It's not like the old days when I had time for that! dry.gif

My god man, that looks awesome. How did you do the casting? Was that plaster of paris?

Thank you.

It was just casting plaster from Bunnings as it's cheaper than plaster of paris.

Later in the year or even next year I plan a version 2, a bit of an upgrade or sorts but in the same design lineage.

Thanks Trenchy. I have since worked out that I can click on the pictures and get more in-depth info. Almost a step-by-step guide. Instructables folks would drool if you put that up there - though I can understand you not wanting to and have knock-offs flooding the market =). Your painting guide was especially interesting. I know a guy who's into painting Gundam robots in a similar style - especially the black on, wipe off technique for grime and oil. I especially liked the way you made the brass look more textured. Painted brass quite often looks like what it is, and cheap, whereas yours looks great. Nice work =).

People are always asking how I do things so I thought it might be helpful. I tend to do those sorts of Facebook album guides for all my projects.

That painting technique has been slightly adapted from what I learned over at the 405th.com (Halo armour). Had to tone it down for this because it was meant to be used but maintained instead of battle-damaged. With my Halo armour, on the other hand, I went full bore with this method almost overboard.
