Thought I would get your attention!!
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a pattern for Fleur's hat? I'm not sure that I have time for trial and error attempts...it needs to be done for the 20th (7 days to go). It looks fairly basic, but any suggestions would be a help.

Smurfette on here has made this costume in the past. You might want to PM her?

Hi Lady Penelope,
I had a look at the hat your were referring to. I hope it's the right I found it by doing a search for Fleur Delacour's hat. Yes, it is fairly basic. You have a hat supply store in Sydney called SA Browns. You can get the felt hood off them. Have you steamed felt before? You can do it with a kettle and free form it around a hat block. The hat block must be the size your customer's head is. Blocking a hat using a kettle. Be careful that you don't burn yourself. You must steam the felt hood until there is water beading on the surface of the hood and move around until you can feel the felt is pliable in your hands. Once it is pliable in your hands your can shape it. Too hold it's shape you can pin it Then let it dry and finish the edge with some a piece of milliner's wire joined together with button hole stitch and some 450 craft glue. Attach the brim wire again with button hole stitch and thread.
Finish the brim edging with cotton petersham ribbon in a colour to match. You can also buy the petersham from SA Browns. Don't use the grosgrain that lincraft sells it will melt if you try and shape it with a steam iron. You can iron the cotton petersham in an arc before you sew it. This will make it easier to attach to your brim to finish. I hope this helps you. Sorry I can't come to show how.

It doesn't help with such a short deadline, but this pattern reminds me of her hat.

Thanks Merrick, I'll give that a try.
But mean while, Wenz has given me an idea..I have a pattern for forties style hats which I could possibly use as a guide and then use the tips from Pink as well. I have done a small amount of steaming before, so I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks everyone.

Best of luck with this, it's a difficult shape to make! I'm hoping to make this one in millinery class next term!

Thanks to everyone for their tips.
I've decided I'm definitely not meant to be a milliner?(right spelling). The Fleur hat was a disaster.
My daughter ended up wearing her hair in a side pony tail with a ribbon.
