OK, I know it's a year away but I figure if I don't post now there's a chance I'll forget.

http://ausdwcon.org/ The 3rd Discworld is going to be in Penrith and I'm crossing my fingies that it doesn't clash with either Bris'nova or JAFA.

I saw that advertised in our local paper. I hadnt even heard of that book series.

I might have to look into it and make something. Should be fun.

I'm going! Already booked, just have to send off my money order smile.gif

I've been to the last two and they're major fun. Lots to do and many people who dress up in characters - especially for the dinner on the Saturday night. (I'll probably do Sybil Ramkin again...)

I highly recommend you track the books down Lady Penelope, some of them are even on-line.

Health permitting, Sir Terry is hoping to come along again, so Bed Time Stories (excerpts from his latest, not yet published, book) will be on again.

Cool!! On that recommendation how could I resist!!!!!

If you are looking for accommodation there is a motel attached to Panthers or if you like I have room for one or two. I live about 20mins away, but its free.

Ooh thanks! I'll probably take you up on that, especially if you're planning on attending yourself?

My default costume is Lady Sybil ("Guards! Guards!" and "Men at Arms", but I am thinking about doing "Vena the Raven Haired ("Interesting Times"), though I'd have to buy I white wig, lol!

Just thought I'd bump this, so it doesn't fall off the list.

Anyone else interested in this convention?

Its a "local" (which doesnt happen very often) costuming event how could I not pass that up?
I'm thinking about either Eskarina Smith or Leissa Dragon Lady...Not sure ..maybe both?

ooh, wow I haven't heard of that. I'll have to try to make it to that. Looking through character profiles on l-space http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/List_of_Pratchett_characters I'm considering maybe Mrs. Whitlow. I have some black taffeta I had hoped to make into a Victorian dress or two (I have just under 10m of 150cm wide and I'm torn between 1840s & 1880s so I'm hoping to do both) so adding a white cotton apron, keys hanging at the waist (must search for old fashioned keys) and a day cap should make a pretty good housekeeper outfit and I can re-use most of the elements elsewhere.

Sorta bumping this up so it doesnt get forgotten.

I'm thinking of going as Ysabell but its surprising - there isn't very much information about her on the web. Been googling heaps while trying to get hold of the books. Theres plenty of places to stay in Penrith if the Hotel at Panthers is unsuitable, i'll have my car in the area so if any transport is needed, let me know smile.gif say from train stations or anything. Plus i know of some great cafes and everything. Would be great to show off my neck of the woods smile.gif

(Edit) just realised my dad's birthday is that weekend so i'm not sure how much i'll be at - but i'm sure ill be at most of the convention. Plus i'm still good for driving any one around or anything smile.gif

Thought I'd give this a bump and mention we're looking at possibly doing a stall at the event (depending on cost) and almost definitely doing a panel (on costuming, of course).

So if you haven't posted here to say you're coming (but you still are) please pop by and say hello.

We're thinking about it... if we go to this it means we won't be going to Suth Moot / Rowany, as they're just too close for us to manage.

Yes almost definately, most likely... Dafydd and I have been debating for some months for either Anxietus or Suth Moot and I believe Anxietus is winning!
We cannot go to both unfortunately.
