Having been inspired by the Guild's Monthy Update that just arrrived in my Inbox requesting ideas for future events (Good on ya Merrick), I thought I'd get some ideas going about possible future events that the SA Chapter might like to host and to see if others have any fabulous ideas they might like to put forward too. biggrin.gif (Those in other states might want to get your ideas going too)

Ok...off the top of my head, things that I'd personally love to see.....

'Rock The Casbah!' - A Moroccan Casbah meets fantasy desert oasis, turbins, tassels and dancing blink.gif ...Yes, dancing (I'm a trained M.E. dancer and am happy to inspire others cool.gif )...A costumed social event with a room decked out like a mysterious enchanted oasis. Featuring M.E. style food, music, entertainment, come and try and general fun

Bollywood - Loved the photos of the past Bollywood style costumed event held at an Indian restaurant. I'd be the first to put my hand up for that one! happy.gif

'The Seventh Chevron' - An event for all the 'Gaters' out there (I'm guilty blush.gif ). A Stargate SG1, Atlantis & SGU costumed event so, pull out your fatigues, Jaffa armour, Tok'ra uniform and Goa'uld extravagance!

A Medieval event - Not to rival the annual Fair held at Gummeracha, but our own and slightly smaller Medieval themed event...Possible a Medieval feast??

...

Do you have any ideas of the kinds of things you'd like to be a part of??

I love the idea of the Medieval feast! It would be nice to have an excuse to bring out some of those costumes.

I'm thinking something Fantasy/SciFi - "If I were asked to make a costume for an Alien in a Movie, what would I make...?"

Instead of just copying something from Star Trek/Gate/Wars, Farscape, Andromeda, Babylon 5 etc, but rather, use them as inpiration.

Will think more on how this could be turned into an event... (hmm, maybe in conjunction with the UFP in their uniforms...)

We went to the Morrocan Casbah Retaurant on Unley Rd a couple of years ago - great food, and very friendly chef! We could certainly go there again.

The Fantasy/Sci-fi thing sounds good, reminds me a little of the event Yoyoydyne recently put on, but without the questions. It could also be about the designing element just as much as the wearing of the costume, learning to take fantasy or sci-fi elements and put them into your own unique creation. Could even be two events...First a theory and designing on paper workshop, then after people have gone home and had time to make their own creations, show them off at a casual costumed get together.

The Morrocan restaurant sounds like good idea. Maybe my idea was a little too large and draining financially to organize as I envisionaged it to be a room decked out in the Middle Eastern theme with multiple tables arranged around.

Don't worry if my ideas get big or strange when I get going, I'm a creative visionary type of person and tend to think BIG! smile.gif

For those interested in medieval, there are medieval groups who run feasts (& tourneys, etc) on a semi-regular basis... eg the SCA http://lochac.sca.org/innilgard/
Non-members are welcome (at a slightly higher cost), or if you decide you want to do it more often, become a member.
Kat runs a medieval costuming day (gossip & garb, aka stitch & bitch) on the 4th Saturday of the month

post apocalyptic...... when the costumers take over the wastelands.

AND I've heard tell REPEATED .....emphasis REPEATED desires to do a Labyrinth ball. Carclew would be the perfect place,The ultimate fairytale fantasy ball.

I would also like to do another costume build night........or day and the alien theme is fantastic.

How about a repeat of the pirates event? that was awesome. We could have it at the beach in summer and have some pirate games... buried treasure... walk the plank... stuff the cannon.... wax the mermaid... drink the rum

Catherine just asked me to mention the LABYRINTH BALL.

Theres my two cents.

Gun making workshop..

No mater where you go, there you are.

did we ever get around to doing a villains event?

We had a heroes villains theme a couple years back....which i turned into an impromptu quiz night.... Remember hulk balloon contest, funniest thing I've ever seen, making green balloons into muscles under a torn up shirt. A blown up balloon doesn't fit into a rip. And Yoyodyne ( the group not me) had a villains party for new years a while back ( and henchmen) That was fun. probably need to give it a couple of years.

Oh did i mention the idea for a LABYRINTH BALL..... dance magic dance... different coloured eyes.... very tight codpiece
No mater where you go, there you are.

Also sounds like a good idea! biggrin.gif

And here are my suggestions:
- Dieselpunk!!! Dress up as a 1930's aviator, Indiana Jones, gangster, or make me very proud and go as Noir Spiderman! - Kronen would definitely be appropriate for Old Trenchy! happy.gif
- Leatherwork, footwear, or armour (maybe vacuforming?) workshop/s.
Go ahead, make my coffee.

Now I know what you're thinking - "does he want two sugars or only one?" Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've kind of lost track myself.
But being that I don't like my coffee too strong or too sweet, you’ve got to ask yourself one question – "do you feel lucky" – well do you, punk?

Indeed, Dieselpunk needs to be explored more!

Another pirate event would be fantastic! laugh.gif

The creative ideas are starting to flow..Excellent!

Heroes and Villians sound good, especially the villians (you know the bad guys always have more 'fun')

A Fantasy ball sounds exciting, maybe that could even be combined with Sci-fi

Another costume game quiz night for me please

I would also like to do a Medieval leather footwear making workshop, where we can make our own shoes in time for the next Medieval Fair!!

I'm still liking the idea of a Medieval Feast with the decor to match, straw on the floor, candle light, merry music playing (I like emersive events)

A prosthetics workshop maybe (with emphasis not on the gory stuff)

More steampunk stuff

Keep em coming guys!

The Labyrinth/fantasy ball is supposed to more of a masked ball (like the one in the film) because we can't all go as Sarah or Jareth. So that could work with all manner of costumes from historical to fantasy (and especially original creations) as long as you have an impressive and grotesque venetian mask biggrin.gif
