There were quite a few excited people when I mentioned a few months back that our musical production for the year (at my Tafe, AC Arts in town) was none other than Sweeney Todd! I now have performance dates to share with you all, as there was talk of a combined ACG & Victoriana Society costumed outing to see the performance.

Sweeney Todd

Written By: Stephen Sondheim
Directed By: Rachel Moorhead
Musical Director: Carol Young

Sweeney Todd is a musical thriller about a 19th century London barber who goes on a murderous rampage. Todd was unjustly incarcerated in a penal colony for 15 years. However, when the show begins, Todd has managed to return to London and has come seeking revenge. He rents a room from Mrs. Lovett, the proprietress of a struggling pie shop. Todd’s thirst for blood soon expands . Meanwhile, Mrs. Lovett's meat pies become extremely popular with the citizens of London.

Approx. Running Time: 2.5 hours
Suitable for ages: 15+

Performance Dates:
September 15, 16, 17, 18

Venue:
Main Theatre. Adelaide College of the Arts. 39 Light Square Adelaide.

Bookings:
Adelaide College of the Arts 8463 5000. or at the door
$10 per person

I believe they also usually have concession tickets for $5, and they often sell tickets through VenueTics as well (this info was taken from a 'What's on Adelaide' site as the proper info page won't go up until the posters and info are all confirmed in a couple weeks time).

I'm sadly not working on this particular production (I'm working on the dance show which is very interesting too, about Andy Warhol) but I can tell you that the costumes have been amazingly designed! They appear to be a cross between Victorian and Edwardian, and they look fantastic so far (and that's just the calico toiles!). It's looking to be a very good show indeed!

So, the dates are Wed 15 (opening night), Thurs 16, Fri 17, Sat 18. I'm not exactly sure of times yet, or whether there will be matinees (usually on Thurs/Fri), but usually performances start around 7ish. Talk amongst yourselves and see what dates suits best!

(Just as a side note, I believe this production is being held in the main theatre, which has tiered seating and not necessarily a lot of legroom. Might be a problem for ladies in big dresses, so this might be a consideration for choosing costumes)

Anyone like to propose a date?
Friday 17 or Sat 18th I'm thinking, just so it's not a school night.

I will double check the board tomorrow for the show times smile.gif

As the dance show is on at the same time, I don't know if I'll be free that night to see ST or if I'm rostered on maintenance for Uberbunk, so I won't put my name down just yet! But all the costumes are looking amazing so far! biggrin.gif

The show starts at 7:30 and goes til around 10ish I believe.

You'll want to book fairly soonish as they're only doing 4 or 5 shows (usually they do double, but with all the blood, there's no matinees) so chances are they'll sell out!

I have just booked 7 tickets (incase Merrick still would like to come or if not someone else can) for Saturday September 18th.
They are sending the tickets to me so i can give them to everyone on the night.
