I was wondering if anyone else has put their own spin on the design of a fairy tale character?

The classic disney movies really can be moving.
I'd sing it to myself, but at the moment I have this song called, "Lilly's Eyes" stuck in my head xP

I just found this site (I know I should be working >_> ) - it's really pretty nifty. It has so many images from different Snow White retellings which are great to draw inspiration from.

I really liked the images that were posted a month or two ago from a recent Snow White rendition. I think it was from Snow White anyway. A live action movie where the costumes were just so beautifully done.

That's a great idea - there are some very cool folk/fairy tales from eastern/etc cultures that could be drawn from other than the classic western tales.

I love the dress in this particular picture - Is it strange that I was excited by the hint of the red under dress/skirt/whatever that she's wearing? If it is strange, then I don't think I want to be normal. ;P

You changed your signature... I loved your last quote. Was so true.
Here is a link to that other snow white. The costumes seem to be loosely historical based, but oh so pretty.

I like my old sig - I'm not that fond of Oscar Wilde as an author, but he certainly is very quotable. I do so love that line from Jane Eyre however.
That is the Snow White I was thinking of

I think I have some sketches online...
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~thebruce/art/sketch.htm
The last two figures of the top row are Cinderella and the Goose Girl.
Most of those sketches are years old. Erm... I'm not sure where Cinderella disappeared to. I'll see if I can get that file back up....
One day I'm going to make that Sparkling Lemon costume one day... most people here are familiar with the Schwepps drink?

Metanoia I was the one who posted about that snow white movie. It's called Snow White: Fairest of them all, starring Kristin Kruek as the loverly snow white. Since the moment I first saw that movie I have been wanting her beautiful costumes! I've done quite a bit of research into her costumes, as I do plan on making them.
Underneath everything she wears a cream brocade skirt with a thick gold brocade strip along the bottom; a gold brocade corset thingy and a white chemise: (http://img.photobuck...nces/sw_084.jpg)
Her first outfit has a buttun front crinkle cream dress with a chiffon underdress underneath :(http://img.photobuck...nces/sw_015.jpg) Although I can only remember seeing the top half of this dress, I'll have to watch it again to check the bottom. Over the top of this she wear a red velvet long sleeved jacket with snowflacke embroidery that matches her circlet: (http://img.photobuck...z03765hi2en.jpg). However, as veiwed in this shot, you see her underskirt, so it is possible that under this jacket she jsut has the chiffon underlayer of the previous dinner dress (Again I have to rewatch the movie).
Her other costume consists of the underlayers, plus a different red velvet overcoat that has shorter sleeves, a band of snowflake embroidery around the upper arm, and a red anc cream trim (http://img.photobuck...s/kksnow005.jpg & http://img.photobuck....ces/sw_073.jpg) She also has long tight sleeves with this, so I'm not sure how that's done.
I have other reference pictures up here :http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Snow%20White/References/
I also love the dress her mother wears :http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Snow%20White/References/kristin_kreuk_snow_white_24.jpg unfortunately this is the only pic I have of it, but I'll try and get more.
Sorry for the long post, but this is one of my favourite movies, and I simply adore the costumes! I'm tending towards making the first, as I LOVE the snowflake embroidery, but I'd like to make both eventually. If you get a chance to hire out the movie or buy it, I recommend it, it's a nice version of the classic tale, and the costumes are to die for!

That is probably the most beautiful fairytale costume I have personally ever seen. And I know people go crazy about some of the other movies out there. I might have to look this up in the video store so I can see them for myself.

No problems, always happy to share the knowledge! Actually it's just really great to have others who appreciate the costumes as much as I do! When I first saw it a few years ago, no one else had seen it so they weren't all that interested. I tell you though, when I found it at Jb's, I was so excited, I went straight home and watched it! I really recommend you trying to find it, and if you can't, I can check jb's again and see if it's still there, it wasn't very expensive.
The costumes are so divine, not only Snow White's but also her mother and the Queen. Hehehe and yes, being in different states will help
