That's gorgeous!!!

I agree that it looks like some sort of suede or maybe even some sort of velvet?

Is it some sort of rich velveteen or a silk velvet?

I love this movie's costumes too Wenz - I especially like Violets blue jacket

I loved the visual style & costumes of the film ... though it's Sunny's dress that I want to copy the most. blink.gif Yep, it's pretty high on my wish of costumes to make, though on an adult will might look like a Loli dress (different body proportions).

There are buckled straps going all the way up the sleeves, and at first I thought the stripes on the skirt were woven, but I'm not sure they are any more.

I think it would look great as a Loli dress smile.gif especially if you made the waistline slightly high and the skirt knee length. But if you made it in 'adult' proportions, it would still make very elegent 1890's dress, thought the buckles on the sleeve are, err, different. smile.gif

I would go with any of the fabric suggetions above: a washed/sueded silk (or synthetic copy - I have a microfibe you would swear was sueded silk just looking at it) or a soft velveteen would be a cheaper alternative. And without more reference pics, I'd guess that the stripes on the skirt are a satin striped chiffon (wide) ribbon, which is also used for the trimmings on the dress and for the sleeves.

IMDB studio still

If I can decide on the fabric etc this might be a good Loli dress for January, and be a costume made from my wish list

I found this pic recently and thought it may help any one out, looking at this costume. I understand the artist saw the costume in person and drew from that. It's an interesting break down of the layers.

That is really pretty. I really like the artistic impression. It would make an awesome loli dress.

It's so cute! I hadn't really paid much attention to her dress before, probably cos she's so little. It is a nice dress though. It could be adapted to an adult lolli dress I would think!

LOL, adoration of Violet's dress is much more common. One of my friends looked almost horrified when I said I wanted to make Sunny's dress. Another looked at me the way you do at a demented relative you're fond of regardless.
