Hi Everyone

I just spent the day making myself a Professor McGonagall witches hat to go with the green cloak I made last year, as I am taking it all to Supanova biggrin.gif

Here is my hat

and this is the cloak I made last year, (the hat from last year is a cheezy one I got in a show bag or something)

That's beautiful! I have the commerical version (from Elope hats) and although it's lovely it's a little bulky.

I love McGonagall's emerald green cloak and have wanted one since I saw the first movie. It is yet to happen, though.

I'm very impressed with people making hats as its something I'd like to get into next, but haven't really tried yet.

Hi guru,
I am a brand new member also in SA, and came across your professor Mcgonagall costume and hat. I was wondering if you would know what pattern I could use to make a similar robe to yours and also how to do the hat. I think they are fantastic.
Im also wanting to hear from or speak to anyone else who has made any harry potter costumes and are willing to let me know what patterns to use, as I have never done any before.
Thanks so much. laugh.gif

I haven't done any Harry Potter costumes yet - but I have plans to do some quidditch robes (hopefully for the release of the last book!) biggrin.gif (I have house patches, wooo~)

And Guri's McGonagall robes are fantastic indeed wink.gif smile.gif

If you follow Starfire Phoenixs profile link to her website she has a great tutorial on the skirt and things for the school uniform. Her stuff is really nice too.

I wasn't going to, but if I don't have time to make another costume, I might bring my hufflepuff robes to wear on friday night. I really haven't decided yet.

You know, I've just realised the 7th book is out next month, and thought I should probably start doing a little extra research for the making of the quidditch robes I intend to storm Borders in smile.gif

I'm going to aquire the first movie to get some serious screen capturing done, but can the people who have done any of the robes (normal or quidditch or whatever else), what kind of fabric would you recommend? Any particular patterns have been used? handy hints you've discovered making the bleeding things? smile.gif

I made a set of new style quiddich robes, not old style and put some screencaps here:
http://www.starfirephoenix.net/hppoaquiddichresearch.htm

I used gaberdine, but you could use homespun cotton (better chance of getting good colours)

McCalls 4340 is a good pattern to use for a base. It can be altered fairly easily.

Excellent smile.gif If I decide to use homespun, there is a little sewing machine place down the road that has the largest range of homespun and cotton/linen blends I have ever seen. laugh.gif

Can't wait to get started biggrin.gif
