Hi there guys smile.gif

For the fairytale picnic, I decided I was going to do an original design Beauty costume - and to tell the truth I'm really enthusiastic about it, and I wanted to do a bit of an update on it wink.gif

(Image taken from 'The Big Book of Fairytales')
This is from one of the fairytale books I've read since I was little, and is the style I'm going for.

Concept sketches 1
Concept sketch 2
These are my initial sketches... I ended up settling for the second picture's design, but even now I'm thinking about changing the design of the sleeves... tongue.gif

I've no idea what I want to do for colour scheme though - I'm liking the rose theme, but at the same time I want to steer away from pink wink.gif But I'll see what inspires me when I head to Spotlight next.

McCall's NY Collection 7060 care of the Salvos...
I picked up this pattern whilst I was at the local Salvos on my lunch break the other day, and thus seeing potential in it, proceeded to photocopy the pattern and draw all over it.

Fear my graffitied pattern cover >:D
This is the result of said scribbling. It gives the general idea of where I am trying to head with this.

And (cue drumroll) here is where I am up to so far: THE MOCKUP...
The Pink Monstrousity... wink.gif
Detail (ZOMG look a dart! I'm so clevar)

The mockup worked out to my liking - Abi might yet make a seamstress out of me wink.gif It's nothing terribly exciting, but I'm proud of my efforts so far - I'm a doll maker after all, so I'm still learning with the dressmaking smile.gif And if you look closely at the sleeve, you'll noticed it's stitched on inside out tongue.gif

I feel really optimistic biggrin.gif

There are yellow roses, apricot, blue (really lilac), red, blood red, near black red, white, a few not pink roses.

Heh thanks Wenz for the Rose suggestions - I know there are other colours of roses, I kinda want to go for the red rose thing, which generally leads me to fall into pink. Though I've had some ideas... wink.gif

And thanks Pinstripes, I'm glad you like biggrin.gif And I hope you can get a hold of the pattern your after smile.gif I'll have to start looking for a good pattern for Belle soon as well tongue.gif hehe.

Oooh she's a quick learner biggrin.gif I'm ever so proud of my Bek Bek!! biggrin.gif

I think if you pick the right shades of pink (those deep and dusky shades methinks) they'll look beautiful on you, and really suit that beauty theme biggrin.gif

Well, I've been fabric shopping and ended up getting a bunch of different blue materials - I have a rather nice blue cotton print with red roses on it - so I've successfully evaded pink... Although there was a period of about an hour that I was wandering around with a roll of pink velveteen... I'll see if I can't grab some pics of the fabric later, or better yet, do a sketch with the current colour scheme... smile.gif

I've always imagines belle in yellow. Probably because I always imagine her with the black italian style hair and lovely complexion that would go lovely with that... I look forward to seeing more progress pics.

Belle I generally imagine as yellow because that's what Disney has dictated to me - Beauty is almost a different character to me.

I was lucky enough to catch up with Bek when she was there so I got a squiz at the fabrics she bought. Beauty-ful ;D (pun intended).

You know what? I'd forgotten I had created this thread tongue.gif Hah.
Beauty is progressing. Was doing the sleeves tonight - edges bound with the same fabric I used for the corset part, and I decided to be fancy for some reason and put some pleating at the top of the sleeves wink.gif I'll probably regret doing so later. I can't wait until I can start doing the embroidery I want to do... happy.gif
