I woke up this morning with a very strange dream of shimmery orange cocktail dresses lingering.

In short, my dream involved a kind of challenge-event where you had to make a cocktail dress/outfit but it had to follow two rules:

1) the dress was not to look attractive in any way at all.
2) you could only spend $10 on making the dress - including purchase of pattern, zips, etc.

You could use fabric at home, borrowed patterns, 2nd hand pieces but could only spend the $10 max on making it.

So enchanted was I by the concept that I decided that I would take up this dream-challenge and set a date of April 29th to have it made.

I would like to extend my challenge out to everyone else. I'll post pictures of MY ugly cocktail dress on here come April 29th and hope to see others inspired enough to give it a try.

After all... it's only $10. wink.gif

very interesting indeed, instead of trying to outglam each other the challenge is to be the best on the worst dressed list.

A task im sure many may have trouble with, nethertheless, you would still need the skills to make such an outfit...

Happy Ugly Cocktail Dress Day everyone!

Here's my contribution.

and back.... get ready for the ugly!

Over 2 decades ago my aunt attempted to make a blouse out of a scratchy, stretch fabric with a crepe like texture. It failed and she made a second attempt which also failed. For some reason my Mum kept both attempts and the left over fabric in with her sewing fabrics.

Until now!

The 2nd attempt at the blouse was used with the left over fabrics to make my ugly dress. I started with a basic idea that kept evolving until suddenly I had a backless dress with a hideous colour combination that I'd never dreamed of before....

My ugly dress cost $0 to make.
On an ugly scale, I'd say it hits about 8.5 out of 10. (the fabric isn't as ugly as it could get).

Did anyone else participate in Ugly Cocktail Dress Day or am I alone in this foolishness?

Hahaha well done on making a hideous dress! biggrin.gif That takes a lot of talent really, I don't think I could ever make something purposely ugly!!

Thanks... I think. When we had the Fairytale Picnic last month I went as the Ugly Stepsister from Cinderella and I channelled as much of the 80's in to it as I could.
