I came across a find today. The only problem is they don't come in very big sizes.
Spotlight are now stocking un-faceted plasitc stick on gems. They were in the bead section in the Adelaide store. They had a range of colours and hearts, ovals or circles with the largest being about 1cm.
So you'll still need to get some of the larger ones resin cast, but it may do for half of your jewel needs.
I'll attach a pic of the ones I got to experiment with on an upcoming project.

I forgot to mention its $2.50 for a packet and you get 5 of each size in it (so thats 15 jewels). There are about 10 colours. Hope it helps
