I was reminded today that my almost sister-in-law is having a 40th birthday later this year and the theme is Fairy Tale Princess. Now I'm guessing a lot of people will do stuff like disney princesses and lord of the rings elf-type princesses, but I'm looking for something a bit different.

My friend at work suggested maybe an anime princess... which I could work with, but I was wondering if anyone could give any other brainstorming ideas.

My bf is thinking of going as the ultimate gay prince charming.

You could do a sort of fairytale princess flung into modern times (possibly in a bewildering fashion). smile.gif

Buttercup from The Princess Bride while techincally not a princess at the start of the movie she does become one.
The Princess Diaries, also starts as a normal person whom becomes a princess
There is a princess in BraveHeart (1300 england)
Princess Fiona from Shrek

hmmm is tis tricky to not put Disney princesses since there is soo many of them... smile.gif

Can't think of any anime princesses although Princess Zelda does come to mind.

My other suggestion is to gather some inspiration from the designs at www.mirabilia.com and www.tiag.com. They are both artists who create cross-stitch designs from their paintings. Mirabilia has a number of 'Queen' designs which are stunning. They're not princesses but no one else would know that wink.gif

You could also snatch any number of designs from the pre-raphaelite artists (eg. John William Waterhouse).

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought of Princess Buttercup... will have to look further into her as well.

I think Princess Fiona still classifies as "disney" even though she's not really.

I always like to go for one of those bizarre out of the box types that everyone has to ask who you are wink.gif

There was a 'Princess' in 'Battle of the Planets' - a cool anime from the early eighties.

Hey yeah.... and I even have Battle of the Planets on DVD here!

Problem with most anime princesses is that they wear jumpsuits, and I'm not really the figure for it.
