Although the eyes are obviously shopped, I was really impressed by this Alichino cosplay. I think it's meant to be Myobi but most of the female characters look the same.

The artwork of the Alichino manga has got me hooked... I want to cosplay one of the male characters now. Any suggestions on fabrics and other tips?

Hi Atory

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the characters - it's always helpful if you can include links to the pictures of what you want to achieve - and your question is a bit too general to give you specific advice...

But going on the picture you have included, the coat looks to be a velveteen (from the drape and sheen of the fabric) with either gold embroidery (if you had, or knew of someone who had, one of those nifty embroidery machine) or you could probably get a similar look by purchasing premade 'lace' pieces to applique, assuming you could find suitable shapes. Another option for the decoration might be the "HobbyTex" type of paint - the sort that puffs up, though I'm not sure how that would go on a pile fabric - someone like Guri would probably be able to advise you on that.

It's a bit hard to see the rest of the costume from that pic, but it looks a bit like a gold embroidered 'broderie anglaise' - again you could take a cream/white fabric and paint the decoration on if you didn't have access to an embroidery machine (or the time to embroider it yourself smile.gif )

In terms of getting a pattern, it shouldn't be too hard to adapt a modern coat pattern to that style, but it does depend a bit on what's available in the pattern books at the time.

And although I agree the pic was probably photoshopped too, I think you could get a similar look with kigurumi mask. Metanoia has been working on one - see http://www.australiancostumersguild.org.au...amp;hl=kigurumi

I did do a web search for Alichino and came up with a few pics. Overall the fabrics seem to very lush - velvets, brocades, satins and furs. So if you want to reproduce these costume it could turn out to be quite expensive unless you can find stuff on special (eg, end of Winter sales). If you were just going for the look, you could do things like substitute a fabric that's printed with a brocade pattern, and use the cheaper fake furs rather than the more expensive ones that imitate real fur - or find a cheap real-fur coat in an opshop and cut it up for the trimming. But don't use the cheap satins - they're too flimsy to get the same look of the heavier ones.

But if you can pick maybe one character and post some pictures, I'm sure we'd be able to give you more specific advice smile.gif

I absolutly love Alichino! It's so beautifully illustrated. The cosplay looks brilliant.
