I'm trying to make a gakuran, (japanese school jacket) for the character of hiyu tatsuma from tokyo majin gakuen kenpuchou and i just don't have a clue! maybe just add a mandarin collar to a different jacket pattern? and i'm having a lot of trouble with kagome's shirt (Inuyasha) that sailor suit what-not thing. Please help!

There is one pattern that is a bit like a civil war jacket that Atory used for a gakuran. Its McCalls M4745. You might want to check it out. Its about the closest I can think of.

The other thing is I have a pattern in a Cosmode that is pretty close as well. I might be able to get a scan of the instructions or something if you give me a little time (and bug me if I forget)

I should really perfect my skills at making Gakuran and hold a workshop in the future. I've had so many people ask how to make them.

Could you supply an image of the character you want to cosplay as?

Um this was the only full body shot i could get of him and yes thats a hoody under that jacket lol.

the other one i'm doing is kagome from inuyasha. my friend and her brother are going to the sydney supernova as inuyasha and sesshomaru so i said i'd go as kagome.

Yes, McCalls M4745 would be a great pattern to base that costume on. You may have to modify the collar so that it's not so stiff as you wouldn't want the hoodie sticking up all weird (basically don't add the interfacing).

Atory! It would be great if you hold a workshop. There seems to be quite a lot of interest. Perhaps we could combine it with a workshop for sailor-fuku for the girls.

Cat made her sailor-fuku style collared shirt by doing the collar in a seperate piece that went over the shirt. Perhaps that way might work for you??

Atory may have forgotten, but he has actually promised me to run a workshop in January on making Gakuran, and we are going to combine it with a girls sailorsuit workshop as well, possibley with Lynne running sewing classes afterwards.

The problem is i can't find any patterns for just a plain long sleeved v-neck shirt. And i'm in a different state so i can't go to the workshop. sad.gif

Cat is in your state. Try to go to one of their casual meets perhaps and ask her for some pointers in person. They are nice girls up there.

I haven't forgotten... I'm still hoping to go ahead with it...

Also about the Sailor Fuku collar most people I've heard from have modified a child's cheerleader pattern as it is the closest thing still available.
There used to be a Sailor Moon pattern but it is now out of print, maybe someone in your area has it though.
