Some of you may or may not have heard that they decided to turn LOTRs into a stage musical. Well its been completed, from the looks of it, and there is now a site for it. Also the owner of The Costumer's Guide has posted images of the costume designs. I find them...interesting. They are certainly a very different take to Ngila's image, especially Galadriel.

The Galadriel outfit is interesting... not quite what I'd picture, but anyway!

I saw these over on Costumer's Guide. They certainly are quite interesting takes on the characters. I do love Ngila's designs, but at the same time, I love that the designer has parted from the movies and come up with their own designs. It's very hard to do, and I admire that.

I often regret having not read the books earlier, before I saw the first preview images from the movies (I read the books just before the first one came out) so the movies are what stick in my mind as the characters. But I think it's great to have other ideas biggrin.gif

Knowing you're such a LotR nut Abi, it's funny to think that you hadn't read them until the movie was almost upon us tongue.gif hehehe.

edit: On the designs, I think they are very interesting. Galadriel's I like as a stand alone garment, but it doesn't strike me as Galadriel. I just don't think the design of it captures her...

edit again: Ah, figured what I don't like about it - the way the top of the under bust corset thing is shaped really draws your eyes to focus on her bust. It's a really distracting design quirk... >_>

I think what gets me about the Galadriel costume is how gold it is, along with being very operatic and not very organic, which seems a bit wrong for her.

Arwen is nice but a bit dark. Why on earth is Aragorn wearing a Spanish style breast plate and gorget?

I love the costumes, Galadriel's one is perfect, it shows the femine and the dangerous in her.
Arwen's is beautiful and flows with like water; Old but always anew.
Aragorn is well....im unsure at this time will get back to you on this one.
The rest that I have seen are perfect and I would love to see them up close.

Maggie's Site, CostumersGuide, and Padawansguide are awesome. She never lets us down on the details of costumes...

Oooohhh......interesting. A musical eh? I like Galadriel's costume for the actual costume itself, although whether it's right for that character I'm not too sure about. Arwen's is nice, very dark though, not sure how that's gonna look on stage, although I guess it will depend on sets and lighting, etc. It's very plain for a stage costume, although it does convey what my idea of Arwen is.

Interesting. Wonder if it will ever even get to Australia???

I know that John Frost from Gordon Frost regularly visits London and New York to buy new production rights for shows to bring to Australia, so if this one's any good, with luck, he might buy it. Just a shame I'm not in a position to work for them anymore, would have loved to make some of these costumes. They look great, it must be really difficult to design something after everyone has formed such strong perceptions of the characters from the movies. I know when I read the book that I saw the clothes in my mind's eye and was not dissapointed with the movie outfits.

I would much rather see LOTR than Hairspray, which Gordon Frost bought the rights for ages ago. Perhaps they will wait until the movie version of Hairspray comes to Australia and then put on the musical version here. I'm pretty sure LOTR has more universal appeal than a musical about a hair salon rolleyes.gif
