I just had a massive win and I am very happy with myself. I studied a whole bunch of patterns out of my lolita magazines trying to work out how to do collars and I was still a little confused, but determined.
I drafted out a jacket pattern based on my always faithful base pattern, making the middle much longer so I could cut the first part of the pattern into it. The first part of the collar pattern is that there is this wierd pointy bit that gets folded into the bottom part of the collar eventually.
Then I needed the collar part, and try as I might my paper patterns sucked, so I pinned material and cut a pattern straight onto the dress makers dummy... then with fingers crossed cut and sewed it.
I am not sure how to explain it really. Just like everything else the collar pattern is a "cut 2", then you sew one side to the jacket. After that you take the other side and stitch it to the first piece then turn it right way round so that you have nice sharp points. Then a facing is put inside the front of the jacket which gives the lower parts nice sharp points and connects them together.
Anyway... here is my finished progress shot. There will be more in my gallery soon.
This is for Tessa from Full Metal Panic.
Collar success!!!

Congrads! I for one hate having to do those type of collars because they can be such a pain to do. I made a lab style dress jacket for my mom and spent much time swearing to get it right. Didn't help that the fabric had a little stretch to it either. Grr! So, again, congrads.

I just made a frock coat for the Western and the collar was a pain but following the pattern instructions seemed to work well
