I'm looking for silk noil to make a costume, and have only been able to find it through overseas websites. to be honest I'd rather not be paying high airmail post, so has anyone seen it in a fabric shop.

thanks

There's a place here in Adelaide that has it "Grasshopper Silks" on Payneham Road, but I have the details at work of an Australian supplier that does mail order - I'll post the details tomorrow.

Actually, it's not all that expensive to get it from overseas. I bought some a few years ago from www.thaisilks.com and including the fabric and postage and exchange rate, it worked out to only $12 a metre in a whole range of colours. I've never seen it available cheaper here in Australia.

those small shops down in china town always have a great range of silks in stock. As long as you know where they are, they keep moving shops!

I haven't been into one since it moved to level 6 of an office building. Though I remember what the new bldg looks like in Dixon St, I haven't a clue what the number is.

I might try phoning My Hung in Hurstville & see if they have it, & they'll know if any of their other 3 stores do.

I'm looking for oatmeal, about 5m of 112cm wide. & I was hoping to find some jacquard noil, to dye a rust red (my Inara costume).
Though I may have to rethink my fabric choices & go with what I can find that's cheap & easy, not what I think is perfect. Especially as I'll need to get a long curly brown wig (with no fringe).

Hmmm, perhaps give this place a try: http://www.beautifulsilks.com/ They used to be a bit more expensive than buying from overseas, but I must admit, I haven't looked at their website in years. It looks like they updated everything.

yay thanks for beautiful silks, they have it at a lower price than Grasshoppers. :happy dance: There's a $3 cutting fee if you buy less than 10 metres, so that's barely another 50c per metre.

Hi Wenz,
There is an import/export silk fabric business in Hong Kong that I have delt with. Angus International - http://www.angelfire.com/biz2/angussilkshongkong/ They are very reliable and the postage is included in the fabric price it is about $14.00 (Aussie) delivered to your door. Order the swatch packet to see the current season's colours. You can also just email them and ask about silk niol and what colours they have it in. The don't do fancy silk brocades or anything but I have used their fabric and it is very good. If you are concerned about your credit card info on the net you can ring Honkers.

Cheers.

Rosie.
