Has anyone made costumes for their figures, or made custom figures??

Dave and I just finished this custom Mara Jade figure. It was very fiddly, but it's cool to have a Mara Jade figure on the Star Wars shelf, as Sideshow don't make her in the 12" range.

We've been working on this for a while. Dave saw a Mara Jade custom figure that used the Faith doll from the Buffy Sideshow 12" series, so he thought we should try the same thing!

She started off looking like this: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=2008

Dave repainted the hair and made the eyes green........ and removed the head. lol

I made the bodysuit, leather belt, and the cloak. The bodysuit is made from a one-way stretch pvc, similar to the one I used for my bodysuit. The belt and harness is made from some scrap leather, and the buckles are made from a very thin embossing metal. The cloak is made from scraps I had left over from making my Mara cloak. All the edges are finished with a hand rolled hem. The head was removed, a hole was cut in the cloak, and then slipped over the top. Then the head was re-attached.

The lightsaber is a Anakin Sideshow hilt, and it's a Mace Windu Hasbro blade.

We would still like to make the cloak clasp, perhaps get some different boots and make some shin and knee pads. But for now, we can put her on display next to Luke wink.gif

This is the first costume for a figure that I have made since I was a little girl and used to make clothes for my barbie doll! It was very very fiddly, and to those who make doll clothes, you have so much patience!

She's gorgeous! It sounds like a lot of work went into that.

I've only done porcelain doll clothes, which is probably a bit easier because they aren't so small!

Hey thats really cool. You two are pretty clever huh! I haven't made anything like that... though I am working on something that is a little surprise for someone... I might post it here when it eventually gets finished.

Does dressing Barbies in historical garb count??? Cause I have done quite a number of those.

And great job!!! Looks amazing!!!! You have done a fantastic bodysuit, fits like a glove.

Thanks girls! Yes, a lot of work went into it. I have a lot of respect for people who do fiddly doll costumes. It's such a pain! lol

Dave has repainted parts of figures in the past. Some of the Buffy Sideshow figures have a stunned look in their eyes, that can be fixed up with a little bit of black paint around the eyes like eyeliner. He was brave enough to change the eye colour, which involved painting over the brown with green, and adding that tiny white dot as well. We were both holding our breath while he did that! lol

Can't wait to see what you've been working on Metanoia wink.gif

Yes, Donna, of course that counts. Would love to see what you've done smile.gif Oh and there was lots of swearing when making the bodysuit. Of course I had no pattern and had to pin it, then baste it, then sew it carefully. I stabbed myself a number of times with my needle sad.gif

Wow, that's fantastic work Alison (and Dave)! The bodysuit indeed looks super.

My mum had made some clothes for our Barbies and other soft toys, but the closest I've got to making things for little toys is the sleeping bags that my sister and I knitted (and crocheted drawstrings) for our Strawberry Shortcake dolls' pets when we were about 10! My nieces play with them now, I'm sure the sleeping bags are still around.
