Hi! I'm heading off to Manifest with the boyf this year and am trying to decide what to cosplay. After a horrible experience with my Gogo Yubari costume I can't face another wig, so I'd like to go au naturel this time - I have long red hair and want to cosplay a redhead.

I'm considering Himura Kenshin, Asuna from Negima or Shana from Shakugan no Shana, but each one is slightly problematic - Kenshin's hakama etc would be the easiest to make, but it's a very common cosplay and I wouldn't mind doing something a little different. Asuna seems fairly straightforward (but maybe too simple? I guess I'm a glutton for punishment!). The problems with Shana are the red eyes (contacts are sooo expensive!!) and, like Kenshin, the katana - I couldn't bring a real one, and it's pretty tricky to make one that doesn't look crappy.

Now that I've talked myself out of those three (wink.gif), does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd love some advice from some more experienced cosplayers!

Thanks!

how abt orihime or rangiku from bleach?
and if u watch trinity blood, esther blanchett would be great too!
there are a few characters u can cosplay in rozen maiden too, like the 2 sisters, but they're a bit problematic coz each of the characters have one red eye. ^^;;

Perhaps Asuka from Neon Genesis, her summer dress, school uniform and plugsuit are the most recognisable, although again they are done quite often.

The only other ones that come to mind instantly are from manga I read but there are plenty out there.

Yay! Rangiku is such a good idea, and she's the closest to looking like me (not to say I am anywhere approaching as hot as her!). I've looked a little bit on the Manifest cosplay forums and have seen a few people planning on cosplaying her... does this ever put people off making a costume? This is my first time cosplaying at a Con, so not sure what the protocols are. I'd like to do a costume noone else will be in, but I have to do something that actually suits me, too!

So it's between Rangiku and Asuna so far! (I'd love to do Jesse but I'd never find a James! Having the boyf wear a Team Rocket outfit would be like putting a bow tie on a cat - I think its dignity would just be offended! biggrin.gif )

oh dont worry, there're no protocols as far as i know that involves dressing up as the same character with another person...that would be silly! laugh.gif
the cons i go to, we would have groups of bleach/naruto/deathnote/final fantasy characters and jrockers cosplayers, so you can imagine how many ppl clashed! but it's all good fun! we all take pics together! tongue.gif

My first pic would have been Asuna from Negima. I'm collecting it now. Is Negi a redhead as well.
Here are a few more.
Lina from slayers
Misty from pokemon.
Askura from neon gensis evagelion.
Ranma from Ranma 1/2
Shippo from InuYasha(altho it could be brown)
Mai & Midori from My-Hime
Allura from voltron (think she's a redheadhead)
Poemy from puni puni peomy.
Miki from Endless serenade
I love redheads. In both anime and the real world.

I guess it depends on what type of red hair you have as to which character would suit you the best.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the ideas and advice! Special huge thanks to Acefree for mentioning Midori from My-HiME - I've finally decided on her Linden Baum waitress outfit.

Super cute and just right for my hair!

Have bought all the fabric and notions - now to make it happen! Yay!

Your verry welcomed Miss Buggles. I'm collecting that serries at the moment mainly cause of her. We'll have to see a photo of you in costume when finished.
I was trying to give ideas with different types of red hair cause i wasn't sure exactly what sort you had.
When i suggested a female vervion of blanka, i didn't have have that sort of image of what was put up. Hope i didn't offend when i suggested it.

lol - Course not! I thought it was hilarious, then BAM!, back came Atory with the Cammy-Blanka. Sweet. biggrin.gif

Anyways, I'm not doing Midori's labrys (axe) - I'm making it easy on myself and just sticking with a waitress tray. I've got Midori, and Jin Kazama to make for the boyfriend (headache alert!!) so I think that's more than enough for now.

Wish me luck! Will post progress pix as I go. smile.gif

Well, Manifest has been and I had my very first cosplay experience. It was scary (and fun) and I can't wait to try it again!

Thought I might post some pictures in case anyone was interested how my Midori costume turned out. It was a really awesome learning experience and I am already thinking about the next project! biggrin.gif

Here are the pics!

(I also made my boyfriend a Jin Kazama costume, and the pics are in that lot too. The flames nearly gave me a nervous breakdown and the gloves need totally re-working, but I'm not worrying about it until the next Avcon now!).

Thanks for all your help, everyone! smile.gif
