Okay so if I get Midna done in time I plan to try and make up a Tonks costume, now for the costume I plan to do (the one from the Chamber of Death: Long coat etc) Im finding it rather difficult to find reference piccys.
The total of three I have found are very confusing in discovering the colour and material of the long coat, in one of the pics it looks rusty gold, in another dark red.
Now I went to spolight today and was looking at fabric and found one called Greta Embossed Satin, which has the most perfect texture but unfortunatly not the right colour and its kinda pricey.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Or perhaps alittle advice? wub.gif

Hi Juna, that's a tricky colour to find - I've been looking for something similar myself. It looks like a jacquard weave, and cos of the weave the different surfaces reflect light differently & so it can be harder to pick what's the real versus light-affected colour.
I ended up at My Hung (they have stores in Cabramatta, Parramatta & Hurstville) and bought some polycotton off white jacquard that I'm going to try dying. Finding good dye & getting the colour a good match will be my next challenge.

A dark burgundy or reddish brown colour looks about right, the golden look in pic2 looks to be mostly reflected light(plus the colours in that room are a little muted as well)

Seconded. The pattern kind of looks like it's meant to be 'dragonskin' (??) ... maybe red vinyl in a snakeskin or crocodile leather print?

Hmm well an idea where I could perhaps get some of this vinyl snake/croc skin stuff? and how pricey it just might be? Cause if its too nasty to get purchaing a leather jacket off ebay might be a better option.

They usually stock it at the larger Spotlight's, no idea about price though as I've never looked. I also remember at some stage seeing croc-skin printed in some sort of shiny plasticky finish onto a lycra base fabric... that would no doubt be easier to sew than vinyl if you just have a normal machine.

I'm being terribly vague and unhelpful aren't I? sad.gif Sorry.

Okay so alittle guessing on your behalf would be fabulous now, there are no pcs whatever that give me an idea of what Tonks is wearing on her lower half, short of seeing the movie again i dont know what to do.
I was thinking pants, maybe black jeans with frayed knees? I dunno, gotta keep in the punk/emo/thing going

I've checked the moofie again, you can't see Tonks' pants in her last scene of the movie.

But the bondage pants (copyright to me tongue.gif ) sound like the go.

Woohoo....dandy style short pants and ripped stockings with unlaced army boots. *lol* I personally would be tempted to toss a bit more color in though....purple socks or something.

One thing that has worked for me in the past when I can't find just the right color / pattern of fabric is to spray paint it.

I know that sounds crazy (and it does make the fabric a bit stiff) but if it's something that will take the paint it works quite nicely!

Here's a picture of me in Pirate garb that I spray painted.
http://www.noelgreen.com/uploaded_images/pirates_3_03.jpg

I have done it more than once... but that's the best example of a picture I have.

However, if the material you're looking at is "slick" or "plastic" like in any way, it might not work.
