I have come across some of the Jenyns corsets/girdles before, and I was wondering if anyone knows how much they are worth and whether they are sort after at all?

I found this webpage The Jenyns Corset about the corset/girdles, but, unless I've completely missed it, I can't find if they are worth anything at all.

Any information on rarity and cost/price would be greatly appreciatate happy.gif

Thanks,

-Ali

As with anything vintage it depends on condition. As for rarity, I've never heard of this brand before (although then again, that may mean nothing). Most fan-lacing corsets I've seen have been Camp Medical and the occasional Spirella.

Have you thought about xposting this to some of the corset communities on LJ? There are some very knowledgeable people on there (I'm thinking laracorsets for a start, that woman has an insane collection of exant corsets).

I nearly bought a fan-lacing corset from an op-shop in adelaide for like $20 last year, but it was too big for me and had I bought it I would have liked to get some use out of it.

We wants one - larger size would be better - but if you see one again for $20 I'm good for the money!

I want to look at it for construction and fabric reference.

I'll keep an eye out wenz cause its not the first one I've seen. They pop up every now and then over here. I could get this one on and laces (one I worked out how the lacing worked... ingenious really), but it was fully closed and not pulling me in at all. Probably would have been a size 14-16 really and I was a 10-12 at the time.

I saw one in the expensive retro shop near the markets, gouger street i think. They had it for $60. I also saw one last year down at the salvos in Port adelaide.

They are australian made, and I found one in a museum (on the net) last night while looking for references.

squee, thank you! I haven't seen a single one in the shops here, not saying it doesn't happen in Sydney. Just not at the time I've looked.

I've had a Jenyns corset in my vintage box for a while, deciding that it would work for my Titanic gown and save me making another period corset, I researched it and found out what I had, what an amazing woman! It works well for the 1911 shape as well, very pleased.
