Other j-style that isn't Lolita

For me, I wear a lot of gothic punk clothes (well, Japanese style gothic punk, alison always tells me to add that word in front...) during weekends back home and go out with friends, but here, i've been told (and experienced!) that if i were to wear some of them, i would be labeled as an emo. -_-lll It always annoys me when ppl confuse emo style with other sorts of fashion (especially when they do it in Lolita cases! Blasphemy!! o_O). But yeah, i would love it if more Adelaideans get more familiar with this fashion and give it a try! ^_^
If anyone is interested in other j-fashion, feel free to post and discuss! (o^-')b We might even have a j-fashion meetup sometime in the future! ^_^
For ppl new to this fashion, i've added a link you can click on to view more photos of this fashion!

there are other links to other issues of Kera on the side! check them out!
p/s: sorry i can't put up more pics from newer issues of Kera...i don't have a scanner here so none of my magazines could be scanned...^^;;

Indeed I do...
The reason why I say this, is because a lot of the japanese look on gothic and punk as a fun fashion novelty, and do not actually know/realize that they (punk and goth) are actual music genres and lifestyles with beliefs (or probably DISbeliefs).
With that said, some of them might know about the original music and lifestyle of punk and goth.
There is a large difference between Punk and J-Rock punk or as it should be called J-Punk.
I still think J-punk is awesome, and I omly say this because I'm a '77 style punk, and I hate it when people confuse punk with a fashion trend....(such as emo...lol).
If anyone is interested in other j-fashion, feel free to post and discuss! (o^-')b We might even have a j-fashion meetup sometime in the future!
Emo's are really lame. And I know everybody rats on emos, but it just has gotten out of hand and needs to be killed. Maybe we should tell president bush that they have "weapons of mass destruction" somewhere and that will deal with it....
With J-rock meets, it is fine to wear and talk j-rock at Lolita meet-ups (except for this one occassion where I banned Jesse from wearing it LOL because I wanted to see her new LOVELY lolita dress, and it really is)
You can give them to me...and i'll keep them MWuAHHAHAHAHAHHA
Heres a good community jmagazinescans on LJ that is dedicated to japanese fashion mags such as kera. You don't need to sign up either. Its pretty cool. But beware...you need broadband LOL otherwise you will be waiting a LONG LONG time.

don't tempt me to put some example pics up....i will totally flood the page...
but anyway, something i've always been interested in.

i just absolutely adore the cross between traditional japanese stuff and modern things! the very reason i got into visual kei in the first place was coz i happened to glance at a magazine with Kagrra on the cover while waiting for the bus during year 3 in my junior highschool....XD so yeah! and that photoshoot with D is just so totally awesome! everyone should watch the PV, seriously! it's so so pretty!
here's the link!

i think if anyone ever goes down rundle street in traditional japanese wear, or even modified ones (like above) they'd prolly be laughed at....even if they're asian...XD
in reply to alison, yeah, u're right, i've never actually looked at the goth or punk lifestyle. well, i did, and it really put me off...-_-lll and also, i realized that asian goths and western ones have really different styles. the asian ones are usually more daring, colourful and outrageous. XD

You have to consider that ANYTHING that is not in the norm people will look at. If you were in the mall, and you saw a lolita girl, you'd look/stare even though you know and admire the fashion, you will still look. The same thing goes for emos and those "hot" chicks who are promoting races in cheerleader costumes...or even some dude in a santa suit during the holiday season...people will take an interest, because it's different. These past few weeks, I've noticed two '77 style punks around town. I often dress casual lolita and frequent town, and I've never recieved any stupid or nasty comments or people laughing.
The ONLY time I have recieved a strange comment, was on the opening of avcon on a friday night with Jenita, while wearing Gothic Lolita. But you must consider the time of day and the person who is actually making the comment. If it is a night time comment, the person is most likely drunk....if it is an obnoxious comment...well there are just certain wankers whose mouths are smaller than their man-hood. I've only experienced and heard of experiences where young boys and men have made comments, girls seem rather polite when they see the styles.
I see NOTHING wrong with wearing the clothing that you like. I don't give a fricken toss what other people think, as long as I like it. Wear it and be proud that you look different

The main thing is that you have fun and its always great to look back on a public event and pat yourself on the back for having the courage to do exactly what you wanted to

I've found that it's mostly young women/teenagers that are the nasty ones, in my experience it's the men who are supportive. It really does depend on how you carry yourself too. When I first started going out dressed how I liked I was pretty shy and so people thought I was vulnerable to insults. When I started getting more confident people would be more respectful because you look more like you're not to be messed with.
I have noticed that at meetups it's usually when everyone is huddling together that the nasty comments get said because it looks very timid.
I really love the traditional Japanese (actually any culture...) crossed with sci-fi/futurstic or punky stuff. I've had the fabric to make myself an outfit with a corset inspired by this style for about four years now but I can't settle on a design. The picture posted above has got me thinking again though...

With young women/teenagers, they are usually more threatened by the way you look. Because the attention has been taken away from them onto you. I dress in the typical punk style, and lol....welll yeah...short pleated tartan skirts and ripped fishnets...girls do get threatened that YOU look better than they do. They are petty and stupid and it just proves that you look cool because they are jealous.
Confidence is what it is all about! If you walk down the street, with your head high and walk with a confident stride, no one is likely to f*ck with you...
All you need to do is think and KNOW that you look and feel great, and that will show in the way you hold yourself while wearing whatever you want to wear.
I've worn lolita to the crown and anchor and walking down hindley street on a friday night....
I've not noticed that, quite the opposite actually. The lolita and j-fashions are intimidating and people just do not know what to make of it. The only comment we had as a group was at the last lolita meet in marion (which speaks for itself, marion is a bad place for a lolita meet-up) and that was from a group of 11 year old boys. Mind you, they didn't expect me to be so quick with my retorts har har har! Lolita's: 1, 11 year old boys: 0

Other people might just really not like or just don't understand the style.

But anywho...I'm finding myself very tempted by visual kei styled clothing atm. I like the slightly rougher edge to it with the mix of styles etc. Bright colors! The makeup...its all so cool.

agreed! i think japanese style goth style has more colour and variety to it. i guess it's coz, to most, it's solely a fashion statement or just a style adapted for their band, like VK, therefore, ppl are more adventurous with it.
i honestly don't think it's coz they feel threatened either, coz if anyone is threatened, the last thing they'd do is call names or stare too much. i think it's more like how morgan-aleghieri says, ppl are unnerved by anything that pushes boundaries (lols, so that stupid English World Lit course i did last sem DID have it's uses after all). They think they're the ones that conform and therefore anything outside that is either to be scorned at or ostracized. I remember this really funny incident a few years ago. I was at isetan shopping, and i didn't have on full goth style or anything, just a shirt and a spiked choker, while i was paying, this woman who was standing next to me in line pulled her daughter in closer and said quietly to her daughter (but still audible) that i was a bad sort of person. -_-lll
Another time, though this didn't involve me, i heard a couple of my friends got 'politely asked to leave' at the same shopping mall by the security guard coz apparently their clothes were too much....and apparently that shopping mall gets loads of tourists so the management didn't want us scaring the tourists or letting them have a bad impression on the country wtf...-_-lll
Also, in response to alison saying i had no confidence, the reason i didn't want to wear goth stuff in australia is coz i don't want to stand out more than i already do. ^^;; I mean, i already look a little out of place being asian here, and if i were to dress in lolita or j-style, i'd stand out more. i especially hate it when ppl generalize by giving me this comment "Yeah, you're asian, that's why you wear stuff like that" especially when they're actually laughing at what you're wearing. i have experienced racists comments before and it wasn't nice.
btw, i never ever imagined the punk movement as dark....for me it was more like...a mess (i mean of colours, what with all the tartan and stuff), and in a good way! goth is way too dark for me. This is cute! *points to pic below*

they're love can. (o^-')b really adorable band! i wish i had the courage to dye my hair pink. well, i did once, but just a few streaks and then the colours faded after a few washes, and it wasn't really the pink i wanted, it was more like, dark pink....T^T

I reject your reality and substitute my own! lol
But seriously, I never said you had no confidence. You're making me sound like a bad person whenever you comment about me ><! I don't think you stand out in australia at all, we're a country full of everyone and thats awesome! I think your cool and thats all that matters LOL! (and not only because you get me kera's and bibles
I guess I'm just used to being different that I dont notice people looking anymore. except when they are making a nice comment. I walked into supre the other week in a bit more than casual lolita, and one of the girls who's seen me in there quite a lot recently, was like "Oh my god, you look SOO good! That looks soo awesome!" and i was like o_O....thanks!

lols...u like mythbusters? I WANT TO WATCH THAT SHOW!! *needs to get tv* i'm becoming such an otaku these days coz i have no tv in the place i live and internet is the only place i can watch stuff...-_-lll been watching anime nearly everyday...gah!
lols...but you DID say i have insufficient confidence on MSN! XD and u are a bad person...u're making me be kotoko....T^T
those girls were like that?! if they were as psychoatic as those girls were in that an cafe clip you sent me i'd swear never to set foot in supre ever again...
btw, i'd KILL for hair like THIS!

my hair can't stand up like that...even my hair dresser couldn't do it...coz apparently it's too fine and wispy....T^T
anyway, i love how Cure always has fashion tips like this. and it's cheaper than Shoxx too! if cure features kagrra and plastic tree i would buy it all the time instead of Shoxx....-_-lll

I would ask a couple of other hairdressers too. Until recently I had hairdressers tell me it was my fault my hair won't grow and that I was destroying it with a blow dryer etc (when I wasn't even using one at the time), its just the way my hair is. My hair is very fine as well, but with the right product and technique you could probably get it to look something like that. I know mine was doing something similar quite a few years ago now when my hair dresser made my hair look "bigger" for an upstyle she did for my senior prom.
... by the way.... why did they do all that hair and makeup for him to wear a coat and hat....?????
