Hiya,

I was telling Starfire and Atory today, about this cosplay that I am doing next year - since they didn't know the character, I told them I will post a pic or two here on the forums. biggrin.gif

His name is Fujiwara-no-Sai, he is the spirit of a Go Instructor to a Japanese emporeror in the Heian Period (794 to 1185).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make is outfit?

I might have a look on ebay (for the hat and fan) and do some reasearch on clothing during the Heian period, especially in the Imperial Court.

I never said I didn't know the character... Hikaru No Go is one of my favourite manga.

There are quite a few kimono patterns around but I'd suggest having a go at designing your own pattern or at least modify one... they seem to be the easiest form of clothing to learn how to make your own designs.

Wow, very cool.

The one thing I am noticing is the character appears to maybe wearing hakama. You CAN buy those for judo and what not but they are usually black, not red.

Here is a kimono/hakama pattern I designed a couple of years ago.

Just adjust the measurements and it should be a pretty good base for you to work from.

Awesome, thanks ^^

I already have in mind what kind of material I want to use for the top (white) kimono, it just a matter of finding it ^^

Thanks for posting the pic. It looks great! What material are you looking for?

hmmm....its kinda hard to explain it in writing ^^;; but i will try.

The fabric I am using would be white (of course) but would have patterns on it, in a slightly different colour (and I think material).

Sorry that was probably a bad explaination, but thats what I can come up with atm ^^;;

I am going to see if I can get something like with oriental patterns on it ^^

I happened upon the name of Sai's hat... at the start of Game 38 Hikaru's grandfather calls it an Eboshi.
